Got another motorcycle. Boulevard C50. Got this to see how a cruiser would be and the comfort has been great. Still keeping the busy but it’s nice to have options now.
Reminds me of my cruiser…

Last week I rode one of my favorite 55 mile loops through the countryside on the '18 Gsxr1k, got home, straight on to the Goldwing, and did the same 55 miles again.
It's the getting off the big slow bike onto the fast light one seems to be the harder transition for me.

The Gsxr1k steering is much slower than the Goldwing's, I actually have to work the 1k side to side, it's not difficult, but it takes effort, more than I would've expected really, just more noticeable going directly from one style bike to another.
I've been riding it regulary for almost 6 years now, I have the suspension set up well, and it's the R model with the fancy suspension.
Nothing seems out of whack.
Front and rear tire pressure is always 36/36psi cold(unless I drop to 32/32psi hot for hard riding, which I wasn't doing at the time).
It could use some fine tuning, but otherwise handles great.
The 1k also handles noticeably better after about 30 minutes, once tires and fork oil are warm.
The Goldwing, it has full Traxxion suspension, and handles incredibly well for what it is.
Traxxion recommends 30mm of fork tube above their triple-clamp, which is where I have them, but it is a reference and is made to be adjusted anyway.
Given the laid back riding position of the GW, you can't feel alot of change in fork height just sitting on the bike, but with 30mm lower than level, and knowing that is one of the reasons for the super fast steering that I now have, I am going to lower the forks.
The bike actually flicks about a little quicker and twitchier than I prefer.
Think about it like going from a 50 to a 55 series rear tire...then adding raising links, the taller tire improved the steering, then the raising links changed the rear height too much, overkill.
That's where my GW suspension is at the moment, I just need to dial it back some, but just to slightly slow the steering.
The nice thing is that it can be easily adjusted on the factory center-stand.
I look forward to warmer weather to get it just right, when tires stick and you can really get the most out of a bike.
The tires on both bikes are also wearing perfectly, with Traxxion recommending 32psi front and 36psi rear cold on the Goldwing.

Goldwings have been flying under the radar for awhile now. I took my old girl through the Dragon and honestly I was not nearly as physically exercised as I am in the Busa doing it. It's not to say she doesn't need to be told what to do, she just does it and wants to come right back upright again. And I'm throwing her around going full darkside.

Yeah, they still amaze me, as they're alot of motorcycle for some fairly low used prices.
And the full Traxxion suspension, Heli-bars, and Madstad windshield I added perfected mine.
I paid $6500 for my '07 Goldwing, and have about that much in mods and maintenance.
I wanted a base model without ABS, navigation, airbag, etc
It's insurance is cheap, and for alot more than I have in it.
It runs great and has no issues at all.
I couldn't buy anything like this new for anywhere near what I have in it.
And add the cost of mods to most new bikes as well.
I've had alot of bikes come and go over the years, but I plan to keep my Goldwing.
I'm still suprised just how much I like it, and what a great 'does everything well' bike it is, especially now.

I know at least one person who has been riding Gold Wings ever since they had no fairings back in the late '70s and he is still riding one....a '23 model which he says is the best one yet.....it is more of a sport tour bike than a full tour bike...it's lighter and handles far better than any of his previous bikes....

He was so known for his love of the Gold Wing that when he left the military and after the parade, he and his wife got on his Gold Wing that was sitting on the parade square and to a loud cheering, they rode off together.......that was in 2014 or so.........

But, I still would if I had the opportunity.

He likes the fact his new one has far less buttons than the previous model.......

I forget what he paid for his '23.....I think he said it was almost $30k out the door.......
Oh yeah, they aren't cheap by any stretch.
The lowest I've seen are 2018's for $17k-$18k
I think '21 or '23 got a bigger trunk and a few minor upgrades, I can't remember the changes.
Most of the used ones here are mid 20k's, and the majority are DCT/7 speed automatic transmission, also with manual up/down on paddles.
I would ride it, might even like it, but it can't replace a manual for me.
The 2018+ are 6speed manuals too, vs the '01-'17 being 5speeds.
I would prefer to ride the 6 speed
2018+ is 90 pounds lighter too, and that should be noticeable.
The 2018+ has that weird bushing linkage front end, not traditional forks.
I have read that highways and bumpy roads ride very smoothly, but on fast twisty roads it lacks feel and feedback, which I could see happening.
I'll just stick with what I have, and if I buy another bike, it'll most likely be a TL1kR

The crazy thing is here a Gen 3 Hayabusa is close to $30k out the door......

I remember years ago when going into the Honda dealership the first thing you saw was a '17 and '18 Gold Wing beside each other in the same color......the '18 was noticeably smaller and sleeker....

$30k...for a Gen3...lmao
Highway robbery

And yes, the latest gen Goldwing looks like a completely different bike than the previous model.

Well 36/36 will make it heavy, I run 38/36 on the RR and 38/38 on the busas. Why the wing handles better at those lower pressures I don't know, probably just the mass of it. It's not like you're flicking it around hey.

Polished the rig in the garage while listening to vintage Cheryl Crow and waiting for a VW steering dampner to arrive today (the latest sub-project since putting the rig together 8 years ago).

Oh it flicks around just fine.
And other than outright acceleration, and ground clearance, even though it leans alot further than you would think...good luck getting away on any twisty road.
Look up YellowWolf on the Dragon on Youtube.
I know personally of a group of local prick ametuer racers that went down there years back.
A couple of my riding buddies were there too.
YW told them if they couldn't keep up or pass him, they had to go home.
He was waiting at the end, helmet off, and told them to "get the h*ll off of his mountain".
Alot of bikes are not nearly as limited as many people think that they are.

YW is a pro level rider and his Wing’s suspension is seriously modified. He’s also ridden that section of corners a zillion times. Even stock though the GWs COG is pretty low with the fuel tank centered and low. A good rider can make believers out of lots of other brands in the twisties.

He actually only has Traxxion AK-20 fork cartridges, not even the billet-triple tree, fork brace, or rear shock and spring...so it's even more impressive.

I know when I was racing superbike......I sure would have liked to be able to do it on a Gold Wing instead of that uncomfortable GSXR....

Imagine going down the back straight sipping an iced tea listening to CCR as you pass the field.....

Would have been awesome.
