V-Max!
You're kidding right? I don't care if you were doing over the ton, if you were in the "fast"(left) lane you were wrong.....period!

+1 on that.

Please, drive RIGHT! By law, in Texas at least, the left lane is to be used for passing only. :rulez: Unfortunately, it's rarely enforced here.

Ok....one of the guys at work bought a $16,000
Fat boy( low boy ?? WTF) 4 years ago and top speed with the throttle pegged is 85 mph.
Now he is a 325 lb guy but still.

I am sorry but I do not understand the point your are trying to make here.

Are you trying to say that a Harley should not ever be in the passing lane because it does not move fast enough?

Are you trying to say that the guy spent $16,000 for a sportbike and got taken because it wont do over 85?

Harley Davidsons ARE NOT sportbikes. They were never intended to run at 185 miles and hour. PERIOD. People DO NOT buy Harley's to go screaming down the road at 3 times the legal limit in most states.

No way in heck would I take my STOCK repeat STOCK Busa and try to fit a weeks worth of clothes on it and ride to California from Wisconsin and back. But I WILL take my STOCK Harley and do it and be very comfortable.

Look at it this way.
You do not hunt deer with a .22
You do not hunt Ducks and geese with a .300 WinMag
You do not hunt Rabbit with a 10 Guage shotgun.

Like every gun has a purpose in life so does every motorcycle.
DO NOT take your Harley Ultra Classic to a track day, it just wont work.
DO NOT take your Busa to a Mongrel's party

I hope all of this makes sense. Please feel free to PM me with your point of view so we can discuss it like adults and keep this site user friendly

For Christ's sakes people I just got done passing a string of vehicles, I just did not return immediately to the right lane. I can see it now, noticing the approaching cyclists I move to the right lane at the same moment they decide to go around and misinturpret my desision as an act of aggression, no they'd never do that seems there always so level headed and rational. I stayed in my lane as to not interfere with their desired speed.

I did not initally post to get into an argument and refuse to continue with this any further, have a great evening folks.

Its who i am. I have since tried not to freak out the locals and wear my rag under the HAYABUSA jacket!

It's good of you to avoid throwing the locals for a loop. See, Harley riders may not be so bad after all.

KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS...no exceptions!!!!!!
Anybody, and I mean ANYBODY who ignores that basic principle is an inconsiderate a-hole.
I don't care whether they happen to drive a rig, a bike, a 'Vette, or a Crown Vic. Stay the heck outta the left lane if you're not passing somebody, for cryin out loud!!!

It has gotten to the point here in Tennessee, that if you want to pass somebody, you simply HAVE to use the right lane, cause the left is all jammed up with a-holes who won't get over. Sure makes it dangerous. But if you happen to have enough horse power, you definitely have an edge, 'cause you can get around quickly. (Or maybe they passed a new law making the right lane the passing lane, and I missed it).

I understand where V-Max 2 Busa is coming from.
It could be that the Harley riders were not native Westerners and assumed the rules of the road were all the same. I've been on that side of the table more than a few times, myself.

I find this subject interesting because of my first few cross-country trips.

Being from the West, specifically Cali, the whole "drive in the right, pass on the left" lane positions are totally foreign to Cali folks, SoCal in particular, although I totally understand the reasoning behind it in most other states.

I-40 is the freakin' longest two-lane freeway I have ever rode on. I think the longest we have out here in SoCal could be classified as an on-ramp to the "real" freeway. (I keed)

It takes some getting used to to ride in other states. I was constantly cruising in the left lane, passing folks thinking, "Wuzzup with these folks. You got a perfectly good lane here." We view ALL lanes as passing or driving. Yes, slower traffic resides in the far right lane, but we make no distinction. Even on our long 2 lane freeways (I-15 to Vegas) we don't adhere to the "drive right, pass only left" mentality.

It's easy for Westerners to scoff at those freeway rules but other states have them implemented for a reason. Again, I totally get it.

The majority of our freeways are all 4 - 5 lanes + carpool. The 405 carpool lane renovation is nearly complete: nearly 90 miles of 4 + carpool on the Westside - from the Valley to South Orange County (technically west SoCal). That's the HIGHWAY distance between some cities in other states.

I know there is no lane sharing in other states so I'm mindful of that, but I didn't know that in some states you can't even split the lanes at a stop light or sigh (Learned that lesson in Arkansas). I played the "Ugly Californian" in Chicago and split lanes on the freeway because if I didn't, I probably would still be there (That was in July '07).

It's funny to listen to transplants (that's what we call them) talking about the freakin' illegal motorcyclists splitting the lanes out here. They really don't know that it's legal in Cali. I try to give East Coast license plates a wide berth on the freeway. It freaks the crap out of them when you zip by. They swear the bike was "doing 80", when in fact it was only 30. It just felt that way because they were sitting still and surprised by something they didn't expect.

But it works both ways, too. I was never so freaked out as I was in Wisconsin getting passed on the freeway by a bunch of riders with no helmets. I had never saw anything like that before in my life.

so I'm not sure why the elitest attitude is prevailing lately.

Time to respect all that choose to ride. We could all learn from one another...

Seems to be alot of it. I spent 3 years on a Dyna and the HD Forums and never saw the negative comments towards sportbike like I see here. They spend less time whining about other brands and more time riding I guess. Make me wonder about the age and insecurity of the HD haters here.

Everytime I've done a long ride and meet up with a few Harley riders I have gotten nothing but respect and pleasantries. The see a Cali plate and recognize you're 7 states from home with three more states to go and want to buy me a cup of ANYTHING.

Last conversation I had (Gas station in W.V. heading to Wyoming):

"You're from f-in' LA and heading to Casper... from where?"

"Deal's Gap"

"On THAT?! Just a backpack?"

"I like to ride as light as possible"

"DAMN, BOY!! Lemme buy you a Coke or sumthin'!"

It doesn't matter really what you ride, just as long as you ride.
(Except for the BMW guys. Downright snooty )

Cool! When did that happen?
Here I am thinking I'm this bad outlaw biker from Cali and I was just some lame rider with a lousy sense of direction.
