Something I learned a long time ago is to never lend anything out.....a colleague of mine lent his best friend his new Toyota Supra only to find out he rolled it drunk on the way back from the bar he went to......he ran from it and left the car in the middle of the road which prompted the cops to pay the owner a visit...it took a lot of convincing for them to believe he wasn't driving it.....even all of us saying he was in the common room watching TV with us wasn't doing it as they figured we were just covering for him.....
It was a special edition car too and hard to replace.....he was pissed......that was in the '80s but I bet he's still pissed off......
I recall the day I bought a brand new '97 F150.....two tone black and silver.....I had just got home from the dealership when the neighbor came over to look at it...his first request was to see if he could borrow it to take stuff to the dump......I told him where to go in no certain terms.......
I get that too, and know of several similiar situations.
But, I am fortunate to still have a few long time friends, and we have been driving each others vehicles and riding each other's motorcycles for decades now.
As you know the '18 Gsxr1000R I have isn't even mine, yet I've kept it, do all the work, and ridden it as my own since it was new(as he drives a truck for a living and has a wife and kids too, and he knows that I'll keep it up and have it ready for him whenever he wants it, he just shows up, rides away, and brings it back when he's done).
A few years ago when I hit a deer on it, doing about $3400 in mostly cosmetic damage, he could've cared less about the bike, and must have asked me a hundred times if I was sure that I was ok.
He said, don't worry about it, I'll get the parts to fix it soon.
To which I laughed...and I started ordering everthing that it needed, and had it fixed shortly after...and in the new color fairings that he wanted anyway, lol
Whenever one of us gets a new bike, we have to take it and let the rest of us try it too, and if we want to borrow one, it's simply a "when are you coming?"
It's always worked great, and we have gotten to ride alot of bikes that we otherwise would not have had the chance to.
