Modding the new Pashnit Busa

Hi. I like the tank cover but it will not fit my 1999 Busa tank1

Mike - Gen-I & Gen-II Busa have different shape tanks, but search is your friend. You can get them direct from the manufacture and there are also dealers too.

What color '99 do you have?

Hi. It is a full custom bike. the paint is pearl white with purple and blue pearls on the tank and and the front Tiger Racing LSR fender, the 3/4 upper is carbon fiber as is the 1/4 lower with a built in under that goes back to the tire on the 6 inch longer swingarm. It a 12 inch over carbon fiber gen2 tail. It has frame that is short necked, raked and lightened. The only stock parts on the bike is the radiator, lower legs, some motor covers and a few trans gears. Most of the bolts have been changed to Ti, aluminum or plastic. Every part is checked to see if it can be made lighter. the bike when done will be turbo with nos. The goal is 600 lbs with a 150 lbs rider making about 860. hp at the crank, about 750 at the rear wheel

Well, geez, why didn't ya say so. :bowdown:got pics of this bike somewhere? Sounds like a real beaut!
and yes, Bagster tank covers are for stock tanks & stock colors.

Getting my lighted custom cut hump to fit with the rear rack is going to be a project and it'll be day and night when I get the black rims off the bike finally and swap out to '09 silver rims.

The Delkelvic dual exhaust cans are for sale, I do like the Yosh R77 Carbon fiber but the original stainless R77's also looked great on the bike. That front fender is also going to come off to go to the stubby GSXR fender then we'll add the Clearwater lights.

Is he ever going to ride that thing?

Finally. Parked the TL1000R & led a Pashnit Motorcycle Tour the other day of Northern California & up into Oregon. Great fun, what a homecoming to be back on a Hayabusa after all these years.

RIM SWAP

Off with the Black Rims > while we've got the rims off, We'll change out the Cush Drives, add Galfer Wave rotors, and take off the (+3) 46T Sunstar sprocket and put on a (-1) 42T SuperSprox Tri-metal sprocket instead. Pads are in good shape so I'll leave those, but eventually I'll put EBC Extreme Pro pads on the front which are grippiest pads I've ever used in 100K of Busa miles.

'09 stock Silver Rims

A big over-the-hump moment, for me and my mod list, was to swap out the black with a set of '09 stock silver rims. I've had a '09 silver rear up in my attic for the last 5 years but I sold off the front years ago so I had to re-buy that off eBay & wait for a good deal to pop up. I came across a mint '09 silver on eBay for $75 shipped. Stock rims are cheap, or rather, if you have a set, they aren't worth much.

But had to wait to burn off the Pirelli Rosso II rear before I could get around to swapping out the rims - and the rotors.

Getting back from 1000 mile weekend, timed that just right.

Last set of Avon Storm 3D <-they discontinued these, on the TL1000R. Less straight roads, more twisties.

I also have a set of stock silver Gen-I Rims in great shape. I need to sell those to somebody. My TL1000R uses Gen-I busa rims, so I have a spare set & don't need those anymore.

pulling this little number out of the attic. Hard to sell off spare parts, you never know if you'll need them again. Or if you'll buy the same bike again down the road...

My eBay find, $75 shipped front silver rim, great shape.

I wanted Galfer Wave Rotors on the bike, yeah it's an aethetic thing, but I love the look of the Wave Rotors.

I also put them on the Z1000. And yes, the brake mod list is rotors, pads & Galfer braided brake lines. We'll eventually get to each one. EBC Extreme Pro Pads (in case you were wondering) are the most powerful pads I've ever used so will eventually combine those with stainless steel lines on the front. They are pricey though and the cost always separates the men from the boys. $80 per rotor is stiff for brake pads, but they pay for themselves.

5+ years ago, I worked with FP Racing to custom anodize the rotor carriers plus I had mine engraved. I don't think FP Racing is anodizing rotors anymore though so for now, they'll have to stay stock black.

I sold the blue carrier rotors to a guy in Australia and never should have done that, but didn't think I'd ever buy my third Hayabusa.

The engraving says "For the Love of the Ride" which is a phrase I've used on the Pashnit.com site for the last 20 years of writing about why we ride.

Here's how Galfer custom rotors looked on my 2nd Hayabusa with stock gold rims. Loved 'em.

I found a used Galfer Wave Rotor set off eBay for $150 which is steal. Held on to my rear Galfer Wave rotor to make a matched set. Used rear wave rotor isn't worth much, never got around to selling it. Good for me. Galfer wave rotors don't come up for sale used very often in good shape. They are $576 new for a front set & $184 new for the rear.

SuperSprox Rear Sprocket

While we have the rims off, will toss the Sunstar which the former owner had a 46T on there. Revs were high on freeway and as this is a travel bike, we'll take it all the way down to -1 from stock 43T to a 42T.

46T vs 42T - quite a bit smaller. Gas mileage with a 42T is in the low forties with commuting to work.

Best gas mileage I ever got was about 53mpg during 1000 mile day Iron Butt ride I did flowing across the Nevada high desert.

Say bye to the black rims

Started using the SuperSprox 15 years ago with the '00 and still using SuperSprox 15 years later. SuperSprox on all three Hayabusa's, two Z1000's and the TL1000R I have now: 6 bikes! Great sprockets. Steel outer ring, titanium rivets, and aluminum inner carrier.

I would like to take one of mine down a tooth or two just to get better gas mileage and keep the rpms down. I do mostly highway driving or roads that are 55MPH plus.

Stock silver sprocket nuts- nah. We can do better.

Picked up a set of gold sprocket nuts from Yana Shiki, they look much better than the stock silver.

I have been eyeballing those sprockets for awhile but wasn't sure how they'd hold up with the steel to aluminum but if they pass the pashnit test I will definitely be putting them on when I change my chain. Just ordered a steel vortex 45 tooth to see how I like the difference for now so that'll let me know which of the super sprox to order

Got every bit of tread out of the tire this bike came with.

Avon discontinued my favorite sport-touring tire, so we'll try their latest evolution, the new Avon Spirit.

48254387447_48598be675_o.jpg

I've been using a 200/50 series tire for many years on the last four bikes in a row back to the '00 Busa.

When I first started the tour company, I was still using supersport tires on the '00 Hayabusa. I think back then I thought I would stick better with a stickier supersport tire. But I had to change tires every three rides. Imagine leaving your house just three times to go for a bike ride and by the third ride you were coming home on cords. That got old quick.

So switched over to a ST compound and never looked back. Been using a 200/50 series tire for many years on the last four bikes in a row back to the '00 Busa. I know what you're thinkin' - why Avons? I was at Laguna Seca 15 years ago, had a booth there during MotoGP races, and the Avon rep gave me a set for the '00 Hayabusa.

Been using them ever since. Ya start using something, it ain't broke, it works for me.
