Modding the new Pashnit Busa

In case you're wondering (I would) how I got a shot like that... home-made gimbal, lots of RAM balls and flexible RAM arms.

Rear Galfer Wave Rotor

While we're swapping out the rims, will also swap out the stock rear rotor to a Galfer Wave Rotor. Rims are different on the 99-07 vs 08-19, so the rotors are also a different part number.

The 08+ uses the Galfer DF355 rear rotor which is a 260mm size and the 99-07 uses the Galfer DF307 which is 240mm.

For those of you that have a Gen-I, the Galfer Wave rear rotor is slightly smaller and a different shape.

New Avon spooned on, and ready to put it all back together.

So you can run 200//50 on a stock rim?
Correct. Yes. The only issue with running wider tire is rubbing the chain. However, stock Busa swingarm is plenty wide enough - Never touched it with the Hayabusa or my Z1000s. The TL1000R rubs the chain a wee bit (TL shares some components with Gen-I) so I put a 190/55 on the TL instead (after burning off a 200/50). But I've run a 200/50 on the last 4 bike's stock rims. I change all my own tires and they are a bear to get on & off, but lots of dish soap & Windex is the secret ingredient to get it on & off.

Won't make you go faster, but I like the look and the busa corners just fine with the 200/50. Definitely a personal preference thing. It's your bike, do what works for you.

GSXR FENDER SWAP

While I've got the rims off, I'll also pull off the stock front fender.

Picked up a cheap fiberglass GSXR fender on eBay. My first '08, I bought an aftermarket unpainted GSXR fender from YanaShiki.com and mailed it to RaceReady.org to be painted. They did an amazing job on the paint to match, but I sold that fender and sourced this one for $75 off eBay for my 2nd '08. It's cheap but already painted and you can't tell it's a fiberglass model vs abs plastic.

Opinions vary on the look of the GSXR fender on the 08+, some prefer the stock fender, yeah I got that, but I like it. The GSXR Fender gives the 08+ a stubby look but it shows off the Galfer Wave rotors, so there. :p The look of the GSXR Fender grows on you. Yes, it's a direct swap.

GSXR Fender swap on my 1st Hayabusa. This is the one I got from Yana Shiki & had painted to match stock paint. Admitedly, the Yana Shiki fender looks much better than my $75 ebay special, but it works.

And btw, I got the idea for the GSXR fender swap from this forum, so it's all you guy's fault!

If I didn't have the rear tire perfectly aligned on the TL1000R and the chain nice and snug, it can rub a wee bit, we're likely talking mm tolerances here between the bikes with the 200/50 so went to the 190/55 on next tire change. And no one has TL's anymore anyway, so the issue is likely mute.

My latest tire change, the Busa got the 200/55 & I put the 190 on the TL as I'm selling the TL
May go back to the 200/50.

And no, I can't feel the difference in handling between the 50 vs 55 series. A 190 vs 200 it'll flick over a bit quicker and fall into the turn a bit quicker, but I just don't notice it during spirited riding. Maybe on the track yes, but sport-touring 1000 mile 3-day weekends, not at all.

This is California so all they have around here are super-twisty roads in every direction so it's super-rare to see extended swingarms or fatty rear tires.

Plus over the hill is the American Southwest with a lot of wide open space and long straight roads.

In the end, I think tire width is a matter of preference and looks. I've always liked the look of the 200/50 on the Busa and that works for me.

T-REX RACING NO-CUT SLIDERS

Used to have a set of T-Rex Racing No-Cut Sliders. Wanted another set, but T-Rex discontinued the kit I originally had from them. They now sell TWO items for the Hayabusa. Boo! When I went to install my original kit, I realized I had this problem.

32048952297_5cb7c64ecd_o.jpg

By cutting out just enough of the screen material, I created enough room. I have a set of Fairing Screens for this new bike, but the China Fairings are such poor fitment, I can't install the Fairing Screen Kit. The fitmet is so bad, I'm still thinking of sourcing (eventually) a bone stock 08 blue/black fairing kit.

My original discontinued T-Rex Racing No-Cut Sliders. Can't recall what I paid for them.

I found this kit used but in good shape.

Loosen up these pinch bolts and install, pretty simple.

And yes, that fairing mount hole is really knackered. Former owner really attacked it.

Hard to see, but install the brackets directly to the frame, there is a left and right, insert the cross-member, and button it all up.

CARBON FIBER FRAME COVERS

Remember a couple years ago they had those faux chrome frame covers.
Then someone got the bright idea to form them with Carbon Fiber. You had me at carbon fiber.

Yah that works for me. In the end, I like 'em. And that's just me. But I sold the original set for the First 08 Hayabusa so I sourced another set off EB. They just use Velcro to attach and no issues. But this 2nd set from the EB seller arrived slightly warped.

46277671985_1ebabc1f7c_o.jpg

They didn't fit well at all.
The EB Seller refused to admit there was any issue even after I sent pictures of the warped covers and I didn't pursue it, too much stuff going on, lazy I suppose.

Oh well, win some lose some.

But I like 'em as a visual mod. Less black and matches the Yosh CF pipes & my Harris Hayabusa Grips.
