Assuming money is not a huge issue, I'd grab that BMW in a heartbeat.

The local dealership has a tester and I went and rode it a few weeks ago. I have one word: TOTALLYFRICKININCREDIBLE!

The shift assist is a wonderful feature. Some of us shift the Busa with no clutch but you have to quickly roll back off the throttle and then back on after the shift. With the shift assist on the BMW, you don't even have to roll off the throttle. Just tap it up with your toe and it does all the work for you. Very quickly, I must add. My opinion, it's better than an air shifter.

Handling is absolutely breathtaking compared to the Busa. I took it to a short twisty canyon road here locally and in several turns which have a tendency to be "oh crap!" turns on the Busa, the BMW took them like it was rolling on rails.

There are three modes on it but why would you use anything less than the highest, fastest mode? :D They have a "rain" mode so I suppose if it were raining and you felt you couldn't control the throttle, well, OK then. :|

Braking. The absolute best. Took me from a very high rate of speed (not gonna say how high!) to a near dead stop in less than 50 yards. My estimate. I wasn't able to see well because the blur at that high speed.

Comfort was very good. I honestly felt that I could have ridden it for the entire day and not been hurting any more than the Busa. My Busa is stock seating and so was the BMW.

Handlebar position on the BMW is more comfy than my Busa which has heli-bars on it. Also, the ride angle on the BMW is just as cozy as my Busa which has a 1" lift on the back and stock height on the front. Getting back on the Busa afterward felt like moving from a Vette back to a Camaro. Just sayin'.

Suspension on the BMW was not exactly set up for my weight, however, it seemed to do exceptionally well, regardless. Quite responsive. With a more suitable spring kit and/or some tuning, I think it would have been stellar.

I took the chicken strips offa that baby, lemme tellya!

Downside: Cop magnet. I saw no less than 12 cops in that short, 40-minute ride. No exaggeration! Seriously, though, it was a Sunday early afternoon on a popular canyon retreat with lots of cager traffic on it so I would have likely seen all of them even if I were on a bicycle. After the 5th one, I slowed it up! And no, I didn't get any tickets!

Downside: Money. $18,000 list price and the sales guy didn't seem the least interested in trying to make me a deal.

Downside: My leathers say "Suzuki" and "Hayabusa" all over them so I'd have to replace all that, too.

Downside: I'd never go back to work or school or home. Just stay out on it all day long every day. Actually, that's what I do on the Busa, too, so I guess that's a not a downside so much as a break even!

Downside: Can't think of any others. I'm sure that some will find that the riding position is a bit aggressive so if you decide to get one, good core strength can't hurt at all.

Like I said. If I had the cash, I'd get it in a heartbeat!

im not really looking to stand out that part is easy when i hit that laughing gas on my busa most of the turbo bikes on the street in dallas are stage one so there easy...im just looking for a fun fast bike

Holy Smokes!!! I figured out what was wrong with your Ducati, someone cut half of your swingarm off! Probably at a bike night, and now it's being used on the thiefs Busa. Jeepers, I hope you got the swing arm fixed before you sold it. Good thing I noticed that.......

I was fortunate enough to pic up a BMW earlier this week and cannot say enough good things about it and it's still in the 600 mile restricted break-in period.

The busa will be for two-up riding with the Mrs.

I would keep the busa. My only reason is loyalty. I luv it and if need be I will mod the sh*t out of it to keep up w others! That being said. there was a stock bmw at the strip this weekend and man that thing was fast. He was running 146mph all day long. Thats big power. Light too. I find they look nicer on the street than an the pics. They are a cool bike. If you arent Busa crazy, the bmw might b a good choice. Remember though your engine isn't nearly as tweeked out as the beemer. You have alot of hp potential!
Good luck !:beerchug:

I like both bikes, but a better comparison should be the BMW vs. the GSXR1000. I love the Busa and the GSXR, but have yet to be able to ride a BMW.
Straightline comparison is ok, but I'll finally admit, as great as my Gen2 is, I can drag a faster knee on a 1k, simply because they're much narrower and can be leaned over more.
Of course it's all in the rider, and the BMW is new, but it doesn't seem to have any great advantage in World Superbike. I'm also hoping they don't develop any problems, they have alot of cool/expensive technology.
People as a majority seem to jump onboard the hype of any new bike that has a few more hp and gadgets, and it's therefore unbeatable. Again, it's the rider, I think the old, washed up:laugh:Matt Miladin would smoke us all on a 600:laugh:
I'm just sayin, not hatin on BMW, I like it so far, just waitin to ride it.

I'm actually rolling around the idea myself...

after having my bike "totalled" in Highlands, NC on my way to a 3-day Dragon's Tail trip, I'm back in the market...sadly.

Local dealer has an 09 silver that he said he "would take $12,200" for it. I only paid $11,500 for my 08' black/grey in Feb 08'...first one they had, and they took it outta the crate for me.

This 09 silver has been sitting for who knows how long, presumably a year and a half...with who knows who crawling all over it. They have a tag on it that lists its price at $13,300...so they giving me "a deal" by charging $700 more than I paid for my 08 back when people were waiting on them.

I know there's been a price increase, but I thought that only happened fairly recently...not over a year ago...to justify the price on this 09. Meaning, I'm sure they bought this bike before the price increase...and now trying to gouge us/me by asking for current MSRP.

If I buy it, it's basically a year and a half old off the showroom floor. I lost my first Busa to a highside, and broke my collarbone in the process. I lost my second Busa to an old lady in Highlands, NC that pulled out in front of me...locked the front tire and hit her passenger door (active thread going on that one - Munchie's Down).

So, enter the BMW...I can get a 2010 BMW with ABS, traction control and shift assist for ~$16,500. Not that I'm bashing the Busa...but traction control would have prevented my highside...and ABS may have saved my second Busa.

Gotta say I'm strongly considering the BMW...it would have to be a killer ride at the Dragon...and the additional electronics would be awesome...but of course there's the issues - comfort, fanbase following/support, first year bugs...and who knows what the rest will come out with in retaliation.

With only picked over, nearly two year old inventory to consider as a "new Busa", I gotta say I'm disappointed...with money in hand.

Basically I can pick between a 2 year old "new" Busa for $12,200, look into a truely new BMW with options for $4 grand more...with the 4 grand buying me options that the Busa can basically never have without a design change from Suzuki (ABS and traction control) and shift assist (that I know could be added to the Busa).

Any word on whether any 2011 models are planned to ship? and when? and how much? any pics of the color schemes?

Signed,
Sad in SC...

Munchie, please shop around! You can get a MUCH better deal on both of those bikes. You should be around $11k or less for the BUSA and $15k on the BMW. Buy what you want but do your research. 2011 BMW production starts very soon so if you wait another month or so you can get the second model year with the first run changes... ;)

Man, that stretched BMW is uglier than Helen Thomas.

If you want a street weapon that you'll only do short rides on, go for the S1000RR.

If you want a supremely comfortable bike that you can ride all day without being crippled afterwards, keep the Busa.

If you are going to be drag-racing and are serious about it, I guess it's worth spending the money on the BMW, although I can't see the point in it.

My thoughts exactly G-B?...I think the stealership is crazy for an $12,200 price...and 15 sounds a lot more like what I was thinking for the BMW too.

I did get a call today from the insurance adjuster...she said buyback on my bike would run $1847 without claiming any add-ons. They were stll working the numbers on what they were allowing me for exhaust and such...so I should have an answer tomorrow.

For that price, I may try to fix her...but still haven't ruled out the idea of taking that money to put toward something else. Definitely would rather wait for the second year BMW than going for the first round edition...if I go that route at all.

Wow, lots of emotion here. Can't we just go back to bashing Harley riders and share the love with other sporties?

s1000rr beats 700hp vette. There's another vid, the Beemer looses to an F1. What's going
to beat a 1400 hp Formula 1 car on the track?!! Irrelevant.

Do what I do just buy them all and keep the ones you like. Honestly between the 2 I prefer my BMW over my Busa even comfort wise. Both have Heli bars with grip puppies here are some pics of my bikes. I admit the busa can be made faster for cheaper but stock for stock on a roll the BMW will flat out stomp it. END OF STORY!!:beerchug:

I have had Way too many bikes and even to list. I'll be honest the S1000RR is the best all around bike I have ever owned handling, power, comfort, cool factor subjective, ease of use. The bike is telepathic and is not intimidating to ride at all. Again I have owned several other bikes including a ZX14 and none even come close to the enjoyment I receive from riding this bike. I know it's a Busa forum and I will never take anything away from the bike as it will go down in history. The Beemer on the other hand is yet to be seen.
