How much do you weight and do you live at the dragstrip...?

Any word on how the clutches hold up on the BMW...?

It may have more power stock but it doesn't have NEAR the aftermarket support as the BUSA. Not to mention they are still very new so you are going to be doing your own R&D for times, parts, setup, etc..

If you are basing your decision off what the bike ran with Ryan on it, I would say heck no! Put those same mods on a BUSA and it will go faster than 8.49. The BUSA has gone 8's at stock wheelbase (stock motor), I still don't think they've done that with the S1000RR (and in SS trim even).

You might want to check the weight also, it's closer to 100lbs. lighter not 175.

Also think about cost, you are talking almost $25k+ for that setup. Do you realize what your BUSA will do for that amount...?

Not to mention horse power and torque potential of a 1340 cc engine vs a 1000.

If I could have both, I would.... the Busa is much more versatile. The BMW is limited - mostly for short rides and track days. Nice bike.

I have long realized that trying to be rational about a bike is useless because when someone loves a bike they are going to over look almost anything to get it.

The BMW is a race bike, not a dragster. It makes 190 hp but the torque is not there and the only way to get bottom end it to safrifice the hp. Also, that engine is maxed out, you can't get much more without major engine mods.

Then there is the geometry issue. No telling how the BMW will handle stretched. Even though you are increasing the wheelbase you still have steep rake and trail on the front end.

The busa on the other hand is really at home on the drag strip. The motor is built like a truck and there are good, usable gains available with basically bolt on stuff. On top of that it can run high 7's and still be tame enough to ride on the street every day.

So, the busa is a better cost value, better drag platform, stronger motor internals, easier upgradability, and good street bike. And you already own the Busa!

If you wanted a track bike, no question the BMW is the way to go. But for drag racing the Busa is the proven King.

That's a nice looking 'Busa. I went all black with mine as well, powdercoating all the chrome.

I would say you could pop a Turbo Kit on there if you want some exclusivity. You don't see those every day, and for 5k you can get a great kit installed. How does 250HP sound without modding the engine, and still capable of running on pump gas? (admittedly you'd need to add some octane boost if you were going to be pushing it)

Check out MrTurbo.com

I'll admit, the Beemer is also cool, but IM(slightly)HO, the 'Busa is sexier and beefier.

The Beemer does have the ABS, but you could do Turbo, a sticky tire, and new brakework for less than swapping.

My vote is Busa, and if you have the coin to force-feed the air, pretty much anybody will be your female dog.

PS Blowdriers work great for removing stickers. Just sayin'.

I had the same decision between the hayabusa or the Ducati 1098. I learned the world is not one size fits all. As an Italian the idea of having a Ducati was just too much and I bought it. Looked great in the garage and at bike night. However the reality is I hated riding it. Too small, to touchy, just not made for my neck of the woods. Now I have the busa and I love it each and every time I drive it. Sure it does not stand out but I love riding again. Hope that helps.

so what drag race class is this going to be for? 1/4 or 1/8? You can mod the hell out of a busa. Lots of parts, knowledge, etc. The BMW doesn't have that yet.

More motor means the ability for more power (in this case). Stretching any bike is going to diminish the way it handles so some of the weight loss is wasted. And; Ive owned three BMW bikes and they were all junk (yes, I am a slow learner). They all had safety recalls and / or major failures. On the Busa I had to change the seat. Oh, and I've changed the oil. h

I'm glad I'm not the only one. My friends thought I was nuts to by a Busa when I own a Ducati and I had waited so long on the waiting list.
But at 6'1, I fit in the busa and it feels like it hugs me. The 1098 I felt I was over the front tire. Brembo brakes where touchy as well as the clutch. BUT damn it looked good, lol. Have to say i noticed the extra weight of the Busa.

Ducati is great for twistes but there are none in south florida. I would never sell the busa, other then to buy another.

I am glad you like to purchase also, be safe and enjoy!

kinda seems you already have your mind made up to get the bmw. If you do that means it suits you better then go for it.

but as far as there are alot of turbos around your area so you dont want a turbo; makes me think you want to stand out more if thats the case find a custom shop and do a fancy paint job and other custom stuff to which ever back you choose.

What is the main reason you want to switch? Do you think that the BMW will be faster then your busa? Can you spray the BMW motor without it blowing up? If it is just because you are bored with your current bike then I understand but I think you will miss the busa if you switch. Your bike looks great as it sits and I do like the BMW a lot but wouldn't ruin it by streching it.

I have been thinking of getting the BMW too ... they are getting some good reviews. I think like others have said... the first year new anything has issues in the real world. So waiting might be a good thing at this point... plus the others will have to kick it up a couple notches and I am curious what that will be.

Ride the one you like. Keep them both if you can.

All records are made to broken. Even the ones set by the magnificent Busa.
