Does the Captain want a New Busa?

A few things that we need to look at. Tax if a gift is very high. Best way to do this? Anyone know. we have a couple of tax lawyers on board and some IRS specialists, what do you say.

Well if we purchse the bike in the Captains name and include the price of tags, tax and title, he should be golden... The important thing is purchased in his name...

OR, We get a big ole' gift certificate worked out through his local Dealer, and then it is purchased in his name...

This sounds like a great idea, but Captain needs to say this is what he wants. I would rather give him cash and let him do with it as he see fit. If times are tough, he may want to sell the gift Busa just as he did his old one.... If that is the case, our money would go further as a cash donation. I sent cash the last time we got a ralley together and I would do it again, but we need to be positive this is the best way to contribute.

I think Ninja was talking about Gift tax stuff. If you give enough away to an individual, believe it or not the IRS wants a piece....problem is that Captain would be on the receiving end and there may be tax implications for him. If you include this and tags and sales tax and the whole shebang....we are talking more than $10,000.

Next thing you know, someone on the board will be asking if his donation is tax-deductible. In which case I would begin to question if this thing is now getting way too complicated. But its way too early. When I get back from Europe, I guess we will have a better idea of the committment level and maybe some answers to lots of questions.

Perhaps we should just by him a giant gift certificate from Home Depot or Lowes so he can do more with his house...just thinking out loud as this busa gift is a great idea but getting incredibly complicated very fast.

Doc is right.....if we can't resolve the many complicated issues..perhaps a cash donation or gigundo gift certificate would be better. I'd love to do the busa, but I'm in for $100 no matter what we do. He can't turn down a gift.

Somebody talk to Captain and see what he really needs!?!? I would love to help him out…oh and count me in on a Benjamin.

Josh

P.S. Keep up the great site!

Well Like I mentioned awhile ago, I agree things are going to get complicated. Everytime this comes up it happens. So perhaps we all save our spare change, then ship our promised funds to Babuski, who in turn, gets a cashiers check for the amount of the donations and we send him that. OR...we could in theory earmark that money as payment for services rendered, thus avoiding the whole gift tax. Because in essence that is what we are all talking about here, payment for something we enjoy...

TAX?

someone buys it. then sells it to Captain for $1.00
I think he can handle 8cents or so in sales tax.

can't we sell it to him for a penny?
Who can talk to the captain? Does he surf here anymore?

If you call it payment for services rendered, Captain potentially couold be on the hook for income taxes.

But this is not that complicated. If we do it, we just send the Captain, or the dealer of his choice a check for the amount including appropriate sales taxes. The bike is then sold to Captain in the first place.

However, we have not heard from Captain, and I predict that this will take a major left turn when he chimes in. If he does want a Busa, I say lets buy it. But till he chimes in, we may be spinning our wheels.

Right on.....no more wheel spinning...

Hey Captain.....a penny (or $10,000) for you thoughts?:super:?

ARE YOU OUT THERE, WE KNOW YOU ARE.....COME TALK TOO US!

Well I have been putting this off but you have officially asked for my involvement so here we go. I was actually hoping that the combined efforts of the group would work against each other but I see that the opposite has happened. While I find it extremely flattering that you guys would go to this much trouble for me and I miss my Busa more than you can imagine I dont think that my pride would allow me to accept such a gift. I believe in honor and integrity and my wife adds to that list stupidity. I have never been able to accept gifts expecially when I do not feel like I deserve such a thing. There is a huge amount of guilt that I already feel from the guys on the board offering up large amounts of money to participate in the effort to buy me a new bike. I know that there are guys sacrificing money they have worked hard for and then offering to buy me something, I don't know that I could accept a gift like the one that you guys are talking about. I am a fairly successful guy with a wife and two kids, a new house and no job (hahahahaha). I sold my bike so that I could build the house and have a little extra cash to get my wife everything that she deserved. I absolutely have full intentions of getting another busa but not sure when it will happen. You cannot believe how much I appreciate the offer and the organized effort is applaudable, normally you cant get more than 3 folks on this board to agree on anything but in this case everyone seems to be in concert.

I haven't charged on the site for the same reasons as I mentioned above and in previous post, I never wanted people to have to pay to participate in the group. This board is made up of a bunch of great people some have a little extra money and some barely make ends meet. If you guys decide to go forward with this project then I need a promise from everyone that they will only donate what they can afford. There is no way on this green earth that you me or anyone else could say no to a new BUSA.

Doug King
aka Captain

Oh That sorta sounds like a green light to me... Lets see, two years bandwidth costs...$12K, Equipment costs I'll guess around $15k, Your time babysitting this board, time from the family, being man enough to sell the Busa so you could do other things.

Now if we add in the thousands of dollars members have saved over those two years because of the information gathered here, the bikes kept running, hell even the potential for a few lives saved becuase of information exchanged here!!!! I am thinking uh...Yeah, priceless...

So lets see, I am guessing that a $11,000 dollar gift certificate to your local Suzuki Dealer is well earned... :D No more questions...

If we fall short of the Magic Busa Number, We'll work something else out with whatever amount we do actually manage to raise... Sound good? I was thinking Christmas, but I know that puts a strain on everyone allready, so perhaps we should try to time finally delivery and cut off to coincide, with the Spring Thaw and a new riding season?

Who donated an $11,000 gift certificate. Oh sorry I got carried away. Ok we will promise not to break arms or ask for too much. Seriously everyone give what they think they can afford and at the right times.

ok, hes not hurting for cash (yet) and hes moving into a new house,i think any monies should be for a new busa thats why i came here thats the reason im staying. if its for a bike count me in for a hundred.
