Glad you guys made it out of that alright. I think your estimate of 100mph may be pretty accurate judging by that gear... I can barely get myself out on a bike in anything less than a full suit anymore.

And to all those "You shoulda and why didn't you" get on your bike aim at something solid 1/4 mile away, snap the throttle wide open in 2nd or 3rd and dont let off. Now add 30% more power and add a spouse or child to the equation What comes to mind? Not trying to be a jerk but Its like watching football and yelling that you coulda done better when the QB F's up

You did good Grumpy. When you plan for something on a bike like this it happens fast, can't imagine how fast things happen when you don't plan for the bike to do something. If you had hit someone there would have been many more variables to the equation and things could have been a lot worse. I think you did the right thing.

I do have one question, and it's only for educational purposes for myself and other riders who might find themself in a similar situation. What about the kill switch? Did things happen too fast and by the time you got the front end down not have enough time before plowing into someone?

Again, I think you did right by lowsiding. I'd rather hit the ground then get tangled up with other people and their bikes. I'm not saying "you should have done that!". I looped my bike at 50+ years back and totaled it, and everyone said "why didn't you cover rear brake?". my feet were slung from the pegs before I could hit brake.

Glad you're both ok and hope for a speedy recovery.

Good to know they are OK and seem to be taking this very well. Great thanks to them for sharing this with the Org., it so helps us all to learn from this.

Your question about the kill switch, or pulling in the clutch would not apply, as these things happen so fast, one totally has to rely on what the sub-conscious mind does in such a situation. There is no time to think and react; they really did a good job by not running into the other riders. It shows that the first sub-conscious reaction was to protect others.

This will NOT stop me from riding. It goes without saying that neither of my parents were thrilled that I won't just throw in the towel. I could've gotten a broken wrist while in a car accident too. Does that mean I should never drive again? It will just be a while. Can't wait to get that new jacket I've been eyeing!

Not trying to say 'should've/could've', but more like a question -

Is there any negative side if in such a situation I just hit the kill switch and hold the clutch and use more front brake with rear brake?

I know its a split second to decide and react, I'm just curious if I decide to do the above mentioned, will there be a severe impact of it rather than downsiding.

@Elvorin - it happens so quickly, it's hard to react. Dave did an awesome job and the fact that he thought about his other riders before himself speaks volumes. I doubt I would have reacted as well as he did.

If you can, hit the kill switch. You can pull in the clutch, but if the throttle is stuck, you can blow the motor and that might to lead to bigger problems.
