I'm plus 2 in the rear. I really like the extra grunt but still tach right at 5K RPMs at 80mph corrected with Speedohealer.

I'm +3 rear and love it. -1 front I don't care for, the bike feels as if it's lost alot of torque and that the gears rev out much quicker. -1 front does not equal +3 rear either, that's a misconception. The overall gear ratios are similiar on paper, but the overall performance when riding feels very different.
-1 as said feels as if the bike has lost torque, and that's because with less teeth the bike is not able to make as good of use of what torque is available.
The +3 feels as if the bike has much more torque, and it shortens the wheelbase by over an inch. It makes wheelies even easier. Both make the bike noticeably quicker, but the +3 just "feels" more powerful. Either or both will work with the stock chain with plenty of slack for adjustment too.
Best real world comparison I can think of is; The -1 will make the Busa's power curve feel like riding a 1000, quick and fast revving lacking torque. The +3 will just make it more of a monster, and alot more fun to ride.:beerchug:
Buy a +3, you can always go back and get a -1, front sprockets are around $20. I've also ran just-1, just +3, and -1 and +3 on my 08, as well as countless combos on many sport and dirtbikes over the years. It's all preference really.
Neither or both will not dramatically affect your top speed either, just the +3 only raises the rpm's by about 400.

Yeah, +3 rear is awesome, and very noticeable. Around $70 average for the sprocket(give or take depending on brand), well worth the gain in my opinion for little money.
It works fine with the stock chain with plenty of slack for adjustment. A properly adjusted well maintained chain won't suffer from the gearing change either.
Unless you want to go 186mph or more every day, you'll never notice the very small loss in top end either. The rpm's are only up by about 400.
The 1" to 1.5" shortened wheelbase is also a plus in handling.
You need to get that exhaust on before you worry about a sprocket though:poke::laugh:

I went the opposite and went stock (18) in front and down 4 (39) in the rear. Did this as I commute 120 miles a day and wanted the cruising MPG. The bike still has more than enough power to throw you to the rear of the seat, but 75 MPH RPM's are much more comfortable. The gearing change and cruise control are a must for commuters.

Saving gas is always good
Might have to try this out.

How less RPM is it?

I do not remember exactly, but I want to say 400-500 RPM. Which may not seem like a lot, but when you are running for an hour at 75 MPH, it adds up quick. I did the change when I needed a new chain anyway. Picked up a steel black sprocket for $40ish.

Is there a way to look at this in HP? If I went +3 rear is there an equivilence in RWHP? Thanks

You won't gain any power....the ratio just makes it "feel" snappier.

The problem is going + on the rear shortens the wheelbase and more wheelie prone. - on the front extends the wheelbase so you don't get the same "feel"...

Personally, if you aren't racing or adding power....I wouldn't mess with the gearing (other than HWY mpg like Sous did)...
