Fixing the transmission

Got the shift forks out today and the shift rods are A okay. Got the gear out were the one shift fork has been rubbing.
On the right side of the gear in the picture you see the white looking line that goes around thats two different layers on that gear were the fork was rubbing.

good thread...

Gsxr051, you might try backing away from the objects a bit further for photos to get rid of the soft focus.. it is easy to crop and blow up a sharp image..

looks like you are going in the right direction.Take a good look at the 4 engegment teeth on every gear to be sure nothing is rounded. This is not too bad job if your good with tools and take your time. When putting the bike together make sure you check every bols 3 times it's easy to get off track when you have it that far apart.Have fun.

I was looking at the engagement teeth and it had some wear on it but to me it seems normal. They aren't round but they have a little bit but not much to hurt anything.

I finally have a final damage report.
The picture shows which gears I need to replace along with the drive shaft do to the 2nd gear over heating and splitting the bushing in half and welding it to the drive shaft.

Does anyone know how to get the space and the drive shaft bearing off without damaging it?
That bearing isnt cheap!

that bearing and bushing is pressed on if I am not mistaken. You will probably have to have a shop do that one for you unless you have the proper press.

I highly recomend FastByGast for your trans work. Send them everything and they'll inspect it all and let you know what needs replacement and what they recommend.

Mark at R&D in Florida is another very respected transmission builder.

I live in NM so anyone out of state is out of the question. I did though bring it to the dealer where i purchased the bike and had the transmission specialist look at it. He recommended replacing all the gears and the drive shaft due to the purple heat rings were the bushing got welded to the shaft. Im replacing all the gear except two. The gears im not replacing still look new.

I've been reading this thread with great interest. I love the idea that at some time, I'll be working my own transmission rebuild.

Where in NM are you?

For all you fellow members that like this thread, Im glad im helping you out for those who in the future are going to be doing this. I know my way around these things, but not with transmissions so much, but it never hurts to ask a question.

Can't wait!

Just found out that the rest of my parts for the transmission are going to be here next week sometime. Once everthing is put back in and its time to start the bike up. Will i have any trouble starting the bike? What should i do? Should i make sure i let the fuel pump run a couple times? What else
