Sorry to hear about this. Even though he acts like a squid, sometimes we ALL make mistakes. I have caught myself not paying as much attention as I should while riding. And the more I am people that ride, I can understand that it is a choice not to wear FULL gear. From the sound of the injuries, it doesn't sound like gear would have helped very much anyway.
