We could be 1-2 years away from literbikes good enough to commute on, do trackdays, short touring and take an occasional run down the drag strip. The S1000RR is pretty damn close to that already.
The challenge the Busa has is it already costs $13K. Most people buy it planning another $2K of upgrades day one, so really it's a $15k bike. The only basic weakness on the bike stock IMHO is brakes, so add $1200 worth of ABS and now the bike is really a $16.2K investment. I can't think of anything else they could do to the bike to make it more attractive. I few more ponies is always welcome, but the engine is awesome now for all but the craziest and the aesthetics are iconic. What do you change and more importantly what do you change to make it better (faster?) than the literbike choices?
My feelings are you better hold onto your Busa because they might go the way of the muscle car - incredible machines built to exist outside the rules that dominated in an era gone by. When you think about it, being king for 10+ years in the motorcycle world is an astonishing acheivement. Doing it with a platform that has had only evolutionary updates during that time says the bike was one of the best designs ever in the first place.
I might get another bike, but the Busa stays in the garage forever.
