Unfortunately I had to leave the ride just when it was getting good. I had just passed some traffic catching up to the leaders when I realized I had wacked the throttle a little to much. Before I knew it I was on the guys a$$ in front of me and had to get on the brakes real hard. Well with one hell of a tail waggle and a lot of smoke it turns out I slightly rubbed off a wee bit of the ole rear tire. I really didn't notice any thing until we slowed down to pull into the gas station. Then all of a sudden my back tire starts going thumpity thump. So after a couple of the group members give the tire a look see I decided to be better safe than sorry and cut the rest of the ride short. Other than that it was a great ride. Really look forward to the next one.

Oh yeah, I lost my damn cell phone on the ride as well. Ok, other than that it was a great ride.
I think I was at the back of the pack at the time that happened. I have to hand it to you, skidding at that speed and not going down shows either a lot of experience, or someone was watching out for you. Good recovery.

Kevin
Yeah it was bit of both I think.

I was telling one of the guys that I've had way to much experience with breaking out the rear tire. I used to have to take Dale Mabry to base on a daily basis with my Buell, and any one that knows Death Mabry I think can understand. That might be how I got so much knowledge on the proper way to lock up my rear tire.

I'm just glad I live in St Petersburg now.
Dude, totally glad you are ok. GREAT looking bike. As for the 'excitement' - screw it, the important part is you pulled it off without a highside.

There are LOTS and LOTS of things to suggest - here is a quick link with some advice gathered from different sites.

From the above referenced link - Hand Signals
A. Hand tapping top of helmet: There's a cop.
B. Pointing frantically to the ground with hand or foot: There's something in the road on that side.
C. Left arm extended and bent 90 degrees with closed fist: We are about to make a final turn in and stop
D. Left Arm extended and bent 90 degrees with open hand: Right turn.
E. Left arm straight out: Left turn
F. Left arm extended out and slightly waving up and down with open hand: slow down or possible stop.
G. Someone flashing all five fingers of one hand at you: you forgot to turn off your blinker.
H. One leg extended to side of bike: That person is about to change lanes in that direction. (I personally prefer and use blinkers, but you need to know this one.)
I. Pointing to the gas tank: I need gas.
J. Pointing to your stomach: I need food.

The infamous Ninja. I'll admit it passed me a few times. I blame Harley Davidson for any riding deficiencies I may have.
It was nice having you moto, I guess your bike is really broken in good now. A ride like that will surely do it. We'll have to do it again sometime.

Brian rode the heck out of that ninja, he would get to top end and hold it there for a good while. He said at one point, going downhill he had it up to 110. That's a lot for a 250.

Just got back to my comp, haven't gone through my pics & video yet. I'll see if I have anything decent this evening. Had a fantastic time , thanks everyone for letting us tag along. Didn't have a problem hanging two-up with the exception of heavy cage traffic in an unfamiliar place. Jen's a trooper, she's usually good for about 160 mph, depending on where we are at. It was really nice meeting new friends and great to see a few of you again. I would really like to do it again and also like to have a group ride over this way. The scenery over here isn't nearly as nice and the roads are a bit straighter, but the high speed stuff runs rampant. As I said, I'll try to get some pics up shortly and maybe even a bit of video.

That was just fantastic - it was an incredible ride. Getting lost in Micanopy and then the (ahem) sporty ride through Ocala was just incredible.

Great meeting you guys - next time, let's do it longer and faster

When will we get a glimpse at the videos?
Uh . . . well . . .

As soon as I can get the camera repaired . . ?

It is pretty much shot - anyone know of an electronics repair shop in Tampa that can work on a Sony Mini-DV?
Thought that thing was ok. What happened?

Here is a pic of me from today. While not immediately earth shattering, I include it as my fellow Florida group riders were no doubt questioning my sanity as I did not have any safety gear...to include a helmet, on our ride.

I've ridden for 25+ years and have never had a helmet. I moved from several states after they passed helmet laws and made decisions about which state I would live in, largely based on their helmet law.
While that may sound stupid, I was very involved in the Abate fight to allow bikers to have choice regarding helmets. The busa is the first bike where I really felt like it would be something close to crazy to not wear a helmet, despite my entire life's past that told me otherwise. I've been motorcycle obsessed since I was an early teen so this is an old issue lol :-).
I still am a strong advocate for a biker's right to choose what he cares to do. I won't ALWAYS be wearing my new helmet, but I did feel safer when wearing it, so it will no doubt be an increasing part of my motorcycling.

The only problem was that as I felt more secure wearing my new helmet today, I realized my speed increased proportionally. I'll have to look into that and fix that soon! :-)

Thanks again to the group for caring enough to suggest some good gear choices and for not crucifying me (at least openly) for my helmet-less excursion! Rest assured any future group fun will include me all geared up!

I am right there with you on ABATE. I am a Libertarian though, so I think government should just get the hell out of my business in general. Helmet Laws, Seatbelt Laws, Drug Laws - all to me are signs of a government out of control. What I do, to me, is nobody's business but mine.

Now, LOVE the gear - big time. Glad you went and got it. Having it versus HAVING to have it are two different things. I want to live somewhere that the government doesn't act like I am their property to care for, regardless of whether I wear protective gear or not.

To kill two posts at once - I thought the camcorder was ok too, the tape is jammed in the player and everything I recorded from Micanopy on looks badly garbled.

Lookin great man!! No more bugs in your teeth. Now you just need a haircut like mine or tspoole's to prevent that helmet head look

I was in the Army for ten years in a tank. Having a sexy long hair do hasn't been in the cards for some time, even though I could grow a wolfman jack if I set my mind to it

Nice that you have some gear now, you'll find other reasons for liking it. For one, the rain doesn't hurt near as bad, another is you don't get sunburned.

I'm looking forward to riding again.

I was so glad to see this post, man. Now that you have this bike you will soon realize that it really sucks NOT wearing one! I routinely take wasps, large bugs, stones, (not to mention 150+mph winds) in the face. Thank God for the Shoei! I've got some decent sized dings in it that would have REALLY hurt. I have missed large and small birds by an inch. That is reason enouph even if I knew for a fact I would never go down. Ask anyone-I'm too damn good looking for something to happen to this mellon.

I was wondering why the hell you didn't have any gear...almost as much as I wondered-"is his name really Miyamoto?"

You seemed really cool and I hope to ride with you again soon. Stay safe.

Might just be more of the same, but here's a few more. Finally got 'em loaded & shrunk to board size. Got some video too, I'm going to try to skim through it tomorrow. I don't think I'll win any awards for it.

Early arrivals at the Neon Cowboy. What'd Jen call it? Oh yeah, the Neon Rodeo.
