2003 Gsxr1000

Guaranteed.....

I'm going to service mine once the season is done....I have fork seals to do and tires to change as well so will be a busy off season.

Yep, fork seals for this one too over the winter, but, I have enough parts right now to get on it as it is, lol.
Fortunaty they aren't leaking yet, so I should at least be able to test ride and bed the brakes before I have to do them.

Well, I managed to screw up the paint on my gas tank.
It was originally silver, but had a decent looking gloss black on it.
I took the pump out to see what shape it was in, and forrunately, the pump and inside of the tank looked new.
I then went back to the other 40 things I was doing to the bike...leaving the gas tank upside down on my roll cart outside...forgetting about it...and finding it the next day...to which the small amount of gas in it leaked past the cap...and ate off the apparently not so great paint...yay.
So, an unplanned expense, and not a fun one.
All I want is a 10 footer, it looks decent, and no hassle.
A good paint job is as much as a rear shock, so no way.
I chemically stripped it with Aircraft brand aerosol paint stripper, $25 a can, it worked great on the aftermarket paint, but barely touched the stock paint.
The local powdercoater is about 2-3 weeks behind, with no time frame.
I'm in no hurry, but I don't want the tank getting rusty inside from sitting a long time either.
My friend with the '18 1k who drives a truck has a friend with a powder coating business, and he's about an hour away.
I cleaned the tank dry, taped it up, and put it in a couple trash bags.
He took my tank and is dropping it off, which was supposed to be last Sunday or Monday, but his route got changed...so my gas tank is riding around in the passenger seat floor of his big truck until he gets by there.
So far it's been through 9 states and D.C. lmao!!!
He's been cussing about stepping over it in his bunk all week, and moving it up front...so it warms my heart, Hahahahah!!!
His friend said 2-3 days time...if he ever gets it.
It will be a satin black, close to the frame color, and get black Suzuki 'S' on the tank, along with some black stop grip.
Plus I need to order 8 oem injector o-rings, for about $100...gotta love it.

Some people are pretty good with rattle cans. My friend’s old ninja paint job looked amazing and I later found out he had done it himself with rattle cans. LOL!

Yeah, and I have done some pretty good jobs with rattle cans, but I have to spray paint outside and air dry, so it's weather dependent.
It also takes alot of sanding and multiple coats, and very easy for flaws to show on a tank.
It's not worth the effort to me, as the powdercoat should be very durable.

More brakes...yay
But, I will actually have some now, lol
I had already disassmbled and cleaned the rear caliper, but forgot to order 2 bolts in stainless steel, so hopefully they will be here in a few more days.
I took the front calipers apart last night and cleaned them for reassembly.
the outer 4 pistons worked, kind of.
Of the inner 4, 2 were stuck badly...and 2 were completely siezed.
No suprise as the front brakes only somewhat worked...sometimes, lol.
After soaking with several cleaners, much pulling and twisting on some of the pistons, with internal needle nose pliers, And spraying compressed air into the calipers, the last 2 finally popped out.
Over 2 hours of fighting them apart and cleaning in the parts washer, but they're finally ready to go back together.
(Once again...Flush Your Brake Fluid Every 2 Years Like The Service Manual Says!
Again you see badly broken down brake fluid behind the pistons, as if you don't flush/vacuum it out...that's where it stays.
Keep in mind that the fluid in the MC resivors and lined was clean, but the calipers, you can see the differnce.
There were no brake fluid leaks either.
The fluid also eats seals as it breaks down, as well as if it mixes with brake dust, it makes a special kind of crud, lol.
Rebuilding calipers is easy, but becomes no fun once they are so far gone, then it becomes alot of avoidable work.)
I have everything now for the entire brake system rebuild, minus the 2 ss bolts I'm waiting on, and I need a new oem rear fluid resivor(old one works but looks really bad from being out in the weather).
I may need to make a custom bracket for the fluid cup for the Brembo Rcs17 MC I have, since the dirtbike bars put it close to the windshield.
All 3 ss Spiegler brake lines are correct length, and their rotating banjos will make for a clean install.
Ebc HH 'Extreme Pro' front pads are going in, and they Do stop you sooner. Those pads are excellent, and I have used them on my Gen2 Busa, other 1k's and put them on the '18 Gsxr1k as well.
Ebc sintered pads for the rear.
And of course 3 new Brembo rotors!
One finger stoppies will be easy, lol.

Front calipers are done, lines are on.
I need to mount the windshield temporarily, and see if I need to modify the MC resivor bracket for clearance, and wire up the brake lights.
I will fill and bleed them at a later time.
I set the old front fender on it too, just to see what it looked like.
There are no bolts in it so it's sagging down in the front.
The new fairings are a matte black too, not gloss like this.
