UFC 68 Couture/Sylvia

i dont have a link-but i did tape the whole thing (for personal use only) it was a great UFC...lot of knock-down all-out brawls n great displays from good fighters. No cry-baby shid, no ref-stoppages unless (n 1 IMO that shud have been but wasnt) nec, and no glove-tappn "hey its ok" sissy stuff either.

it was absolutely AWESOME watching Cotoure man-handle Silvia....as Joe Rogan says "That guy is my hero!"

I saw the video on youtube last night. I know that the ufc people have taken some clips of it down, but the final round was still on youtube last night.

My problem with ufc is that the fights go to decisions. I think they need to let the fights go on til somebody gets knocked out or taps.

have to disagree there, Pan-as a fan of the sport, do you want to see Randy fight once every 3-4 mos, or once a year?

If you force fights to go to a ko/tko/submission, you have to deal with fights going on far longer...then start to factor in fatigue (you dont heal as well when you've been exhausted like that) and more injuries due to more exposure to a situation where you are GOING to get hurt...

ive heard the same argument from others too...but if this was your JOB...and they were telling you to perform at 100% min. 3 times a year or you take a serious pay cut-you'd want to make sure you can be able to perform every time.

UFC has instituted new rules over the years to help protect fighters from career-ending injuries because there is a real threat every time they get in the ring that it could be the last time if they make a mistake-thats y they cant knee opponents with a knee or hand on the ground, or strike to the back of the head.

if it was 'no holds barred' for real-half the fighters would die every time...then there are no crowd favorites cuz even the best would get beat from being tired of fighting so many guys back-to-back.

its all for the betterment of the sport man

... but the sport was far more exciting in the 90's when they had no weight classes and pretty much allowed every move except fish-hooking, biting, and... well, that's pretty much all they outlawed! LOL! It was always bloody and always better when it was more of a true gladiator event than a simple sport today. I just liked UFC when it was underground... especially Gracie, Severn, and Shamrock. In his prime, Gracie was the man! I saw when he came back to fight Hugues and that was just a joke.

Still, I like UFC. But you must admit, it's not as cool as it was in the early to mid 90's.

i was pulling for Randy all the way and he did what had to be done and did it well

however, he has my condolences now, he just won the right to face Cro Cop- good luck

I agree. Back then I thought it was more "pure" in that combatants were pitting their skill/fighting discipline against each other, without worrying about weight.

I remember seeing Dan Severn who outweighed Gracie by something like 90 pounds get on top of Gracie. At the time I was thinking, "Well, that's it for the small dude!"

And then Severn tapped!

I guess they had to make sacrifices in order to have it more mass market...

Great night of fights AGAIN!!!

I cant believe Randy won. He got lucky bobbing and weaving with is head low. One head kick and he would of been out. He did it though!!! Wonder if he is going to extend his 4 fight contract. Cro cop is going to be interesting fight!! I wouldnt want to be in there with him. I would go back to retirement now and save my a$$ from a beat down that will be on the highlight reels.

All of the fights were good. Matt looked good again! Rich looked OK, not good enough to hold a belt n my opinion but I guess jitters like he said. He has alot of holes in his game that other fighters can get passed too easy. My $02.

Kampman got Mcfeddries- I though Kampmann was just going to be a heavy bag for a couple of rounds there until he hit the canvas. Goes to show you, you never know!!
Babalou loses again!! I really liked him and would have picked him to be a title holder but what do I know?? He is a really good overall fighter but something is missing?

Great night of fights! Couldnt sit down one bit!!

I disagree with your choice of words...

I don't think randy got lucky.... he did what he set out to do and thats it. If you think he was lucky than anyone that wins is "lucky" because anyone could get hit with a head kick or something and lose.

I didn't think matt looked all that impressive. He didn't dominate like I thought. Rich looked ok, but wasn't as lively as I thought he would have been. He did dominate one of the better 185lb guys. I can't wait for him to fight swick.

I'm not sure if babalou is too careless with some of his attacks or what but he definitely has the skills to be a champ but just has some choices that cause him to lose to stupid opponents.

i think the old fights were good, showcasing the best fighters of different martial arts backgrounds, but when a grappler/Jiu Jitsu master gets in the ring w/an experianced MMA fighter?

they get their a** handed to them, ala Hughes Vs. Gracie-Matt used to be very one-dimensional fighter but went into that fight using much more striking techniques mixd with his grappling, and he owned Hoyce.

The new sport is just that-an evolved version of what used to be UFC. The new fighters are better conditioned to fight at maximum intensity with a wider range of lethal tactics-wrestling champs that throw n kick n knee, WELL, is a scary thing-Randy just proved he can do ALL that even better than a 35 year old giant....when Randy started in MMA, he realized he needed to improve all-around n trained accordingly, harder and longer than most guys HALF his age in this sport, and it paid off. Period.

he was NOT lucky.

I have been a long time fan of the UFC and pride fighting and I have definitly have seen a drastic change in the performance of these competitures!!!!! If by chance you are a good street fight or just a wrestler your not going to make it in here !!!! You better have a well rounded game and a strong wrestler, striker, grappler, ninjitsu specialist you better have the total package if your going to compete in the game today!!! grace with all props did bring the sport to a new level in his time but it has evolved a long way since then !!!!!!!
