Once again another tire question...

This is for a commuter of 75 miles a day, and about 20 of those are hitting the twisties.  I wore out the stock tires with about 2.5k, then went to the BT020's.  Ive got around 5k on the rear and am in dire need of a new set.  Not too comfortable with the BT020's, dont know why??? Been looking at the Metzlers ME1, ME4's, Michelin Pilots sports, and HPX's.  Any one have any insight on a decent tire.  I know that its either sticky or touring, and there is no in between.  What does everyone recommend for a commuter that likes to hit the twisties.  happy medium

Michelin Pilot HPX's have been doing me fine for the last couple of changes.
And when I can find the Pilot Powers which are replacing the HPX's, I am going to try them.

I've used only Metzeler Sprortech M1 and would NOT recommend them for long commutes. They don't last very long on long rides.

Well, Sorry Big dawg but I gotta disagree with you on this one.
I'm getting 10k+ outa my fronts and 5-6k outa my rears with the sportec M-1s. I've never noticed any problem on long rides either.

I think the mileage will vary quite a bit depending how heavy you are and how much you ride two-up. I am rather light (145 lbs) and my tires seem to last longer than the same tires on other people's bikes. Also, when I ride two-up, especially for longer rides, I can actually see the tire wear over the course of the day. Weight makes that much difference.

I will say that HPX's seem to be the best choice for good grip and long(er) wear but the heat up slower than most sport tires. Otherwise you have no choice but to either buy sport tires often or go with sport-touring tires like BT020's or M4's, etc. etc.

I am blessed being light enough that I can use sticky tires and still get +3K miles out of them. I have 3K now on the stock Bt56's and they are not worn out, not even close. I almost want them to wear out as I have a new set of M1's to mount.

So consider you weight also when choosing a tire along with your style of riding. Just a thought.

I run the Avon Azaros (45/46), took them to deal's gap last yr, and the performed better then the M1's I had..
And yea it is a 200 series rear, measures true 198 like the factory original ..
I currently have abit over 6k on them, and seriously love them.
Cookie got around 9k I think on his.. I have alot of meat left on mine.
Phantombusa has the rear on his Turbo Busa and vouches on the hookup of this tire.

I am an agressive rider, hate burnouts, and love to lean/top it out when I can.

It has the VBD something liek Variable Belt Density, giving it greater cornering stability and feedback, and footprint.

This time @ the gap I am gonna either take this one off and try the 190 or the 180/55 and see ..

Unlike the m1's or 010's 207' 208's etc, I have NO cupping of the front in 6k HARD miles.

I don't care for the BT 20's much, however you will get more mileage off of them over most. As you have seen if you got 5K.

Thanx Busafied

Avons seem to be less expensive than the michelins. I know that body weight has alot to do with tire wear. Im not exactly alittle guy, 6ft 240... What about the Metzlers? Does anyone have any advise???

Hey busafied...how are those Avons in wet conditions?

Does anyone know?
Not alot of rain here in Tx, 'cept for early spring..

The few times I have been out on the wet roads, and 2x's I been caught in downpours.. they were solid, with proper break control..
But as with most tires, caution with conditions

I have run the BT020 and my front wears out faster then the rear. I heard the BT020 is a dual compound tire and tire pressure seems critical, I had a very slow leak at the front a while back and the tire dissapeared in a month of highway running.

eD.

Im not too comfortable with the stickiness of the tires.  BT056 were good to go, leaned all the way over.  No stripe, however the 020's, I just dont know about them, I dont have that comfortable feel.   Tires nice and warm, slipped a couple of times.  I need something better ... I like what busafied had to say.... Question Busafied, how was the warm up time??? I know the hpx take alittle time...

Don't know if price is an issue for anyone, but here is a special I received from Mr. Motorcycle that may at least help once you have decided.
