W/C...you absolutely changed my outlook on the day with that one.

Thanx.

This thread has generated more anxiety than a discussion about politics or religion.

Kinda crazy.

Everyone needs to take a little blue football-shaped pill and have a beer...
ahhhh.... this one?

WORD in @ 2:10pm eastern time: the tbs has been released If your Unit was ridden and the iginion switch is effected then u need a hole replacement. If unit was not ridden it will have to be re-routed, just waiting for confirmation, these are the units(busas) that fall under those specific VIN# Ranges, more to come

If your Unit was ridden and the iginion switch is effected [/quote] key word "Effected" meaning it likely pulled some wires out of the back of the switch.. should be easy enough to see...

I now have this 12-page (!) Safety Recall coming to me now... and it is a Service Bulletin SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN (as printed on the paperwork), not just a simple TBS.

It is basically in two parts: and *inspection* to determine if you have the issue, and *replacement* of the ignition switch if damaged is assessed.

LABOR HOURS:

Inspection time to verify routing and show no damage: 0.3 hrs.

Replacement of ignition switch (If needed): 1.3 hours

More to come after I read through these 12 pages.....

Update:

Page 4 of this 12-page Safety Recall Campaign shows full pictures of what the INCORRECT Position and INCORRECT harness routing looks like, along with full descriptions of what to look for.

Page 5 of the Safety Recall shows good photos of what the CORRECT routing is supposed to look like.

If damaged is found, the Ignition Switch itself must be replaced. This job is an ass-pain. The ignition switch is retained by dome-shaped "security bolts" that require a special tool to remove (otherwise, you are looking at grinding a slot into the dome and take a man-sized heavy-duty impact driver to remove them.)

K8 owners who's VIN falls within the affected range will have a Safety Recall Campaign letter mailed to them on June 10th.

Ack... I just noticed the VIN of my K8 is indeed within the range of affected groups.

Warchild,
Is there anyway you could post picts? Not to be a PIA, but I spoke to the service manager where I got my bike. He still doesn't have this and won't order the part until he inspects. If I can get the picts, inspect and know whether I need him at all. That would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Ron (and yes I realize you may have been thinkin that way anyway, either way thanks)

Yet another update.... and this is no good.....

Page one of this thread gave a Canadian VIN number range to look for.... JS1GX72A*82100047 to JS1GX72A*82111237

Wellllll....... this 12-page Suzuki USA Safety Recall Campaign has eight (8) different ranges of VIN numbers to cover. EIGHT!!!!!!!

It starts with: JS1GX72A*82100020

It ends with: JS1GX72A*82112289

At the same time, it shows five (5) blocks of VIN numbers WITHIN the above range that at NOT among affected units. So you lucky folks are off the hook, apparently.

I'll post the various ranges when I can tonight.

Yes, he does... if he is a authorized Suzuki dealer.

Tell him to log into his "Suzuki Connect" network and pull down the Safety Recall Campaign #2A05

It is GS/GSX/GSX-R Bulletin No. 183

He has it... he just needs to bring it up and print it out.

I'll post the photos tonight unless someone beats me to it.

THANKS Warchild

Suck, mine is in the range. Confirmed with the dealer just moments ago.

Interesting though that all bikes they have in stock after mine are not in the effected range and are able to be sold. I guess I got mine a couple weeks too early.

I know you guys and gals with the '08's may be bummed, and I hope it gets resolved easily for you. But it really shows the power of the .Org to keep its members informed ... in some cases, even before the dealers were aware of the problem.

Thanks to everyone for keeping us updated.

Mine is 'on the list' as well...got an appointment Monday morning at 8:00 for the inspection.

I'll give my 'take' on it afterward, if anyone else is going the route I've chosen.

I will still spank the you-know-what out of her this weekend...at my current mileage (and that of a select few very fortuante others), I don't foresee any issues before the work is accomplished.

Echoing 05BUSALE's sentiments, well done to all. Warchild, you are an amazing asset. Thanks.

Warchild, you are an amazing asset. Thanks.
I appreciate the sentiment, but at the same time, I need to be, um, kinda careful how I go about lettin y'all in on the scoop, so as to not get my ferrets down in Brea, CA in any hot water.

I'm sure you can read between the lines here.

So, check it out.... I recently came across a few excellent K8 images I thought I would share! Aren't these drawings very interesting?

If inspection shows incorrect routing and your bike has been ridden, a new ignition switch may be in your future. Apparently, your switch wiring may have subject to potential damage due to the mis-routing.

So if you have good karma, this is what you will see:

If you're in the affected VIN range shown above.... looks like you'll be getting a letter soon. Me, I have 13,000 miles on my K8, so, I think I will head the garage for a little look-see...
