Stereo Install progress

I promised a write up, but I figured I'd throw some teaser pics
up of the progress I made just starting it today in my spare time
at work. There is really only 1 complicated area I've encountered
to do this. I'll explain all that when I do the write up.

After being quoted $100-$150 JUST to mount the speakers to my fairings
.....I laughed and said "FOOK THAT!!!" and here we are today.

4" holesaw used for 5.25" speakers, = perfect.
Drill press makes this task simple.

Deburring it with a hobby knife and dremel came afterwards.....hopefully
my amp arrives later today so I can wire it up, take pics, and see how it all sounds.
I'll give detailed steps on how to do it all step by step, and order of measurements.

I would almost rather wear some ear buds.. but to each their own. You get weather resistant speakers?

I am just wondering what it sounds like at freeway speeds. I hate earbuds, they always seem to wiggle out on long trips.

are you gonna have the depth needed for the speaker magnet in that location?
Yes.

That is the only complicated part to overcome on the left side fairing
believe it or not. Right side fairing is WIDE open underneath.
Left side fairing has some large fuses, and all your wiring bundles.

You have to find speakers that have magnets NOT too large and NOT too deep.
Really unless you're buying some super high end components or what not
I think 90% of what's out there will fit as you will see in my pic
there's PLENTY of room between the dash fairing and the speaker still.

Here's the pics of what I'm talking about and the speaker IN the dash now.

This is the only part you'll have trouble with getting the speaker to fit.
All you do is pull that fuse OFF the track, and lay it down out of the way.

Next you push/bend this bracket the other 2 fuses are still on to the right.
To the left of this is the "pocket" of where your speaker magnet will rest.

Speaker goes in (FYI - these are Walmart Pioneer cheapy's just for fitment purposes)
I'm ordering some 4ohm Components now that I know they fit.

Here's the fairing over it, as you can see, there's PLENTY of room still.
All you gotta do now is bolt to the fairing and do the speaker grills.
That will be tonight if I get the materials and I'll let ya know how it goes.

Here's the right dash fairing exposed.....completely empty...piece of cake.

I have to go pick up some rubber U-channel today to cover the circle cut
and make it look somewhat cleaner, then grab the sturdy mesh screen and
mount that in there. Unfortunately my amp won't be here til Thursday

according to the tracking. So you guys will have to wait. I might do
a video for the slightly complicated parts to make it seamless for ya.

Right now IIRC there's room behind the gauges for the amp...but I'll have to verify.

Any suggestions or comments feel free.

Plastic snap-in covers for rain would be nice.
Hmm.....not a bad idea.

Myself, I try to stay out of the rain , and I check the weather before
getting on my bike everyday I ride it. That doesn't mean I haven't been
nailed before though. That's why I'm not bothering with Marine speakers.

I might have to consider that. Not a bad idea.

I've been wondering how things were going with u on this project....and I see u have been at work my friend

Can't wait to see the finished project so I can complete this task myself rather than forking out $500-$1000 to have someone else do it. I really wished "Rhythm" or one of the other guys on the forum help out some. Great work so far man.

How about a subwoofer in the hump?

First I'm going to see how the 5.25 components sound before I commit to it.
If they are lacking too much in bass, it's a definite.

That will be ALOT easier to accomplish.
The only thing I haven't quite figured out yet is how to split
the signal to the 2nd amp off a Stereo to Single RCA output cable.
I'm sure I can find out quickly by asking a few peeps though.

Thanks, yeah if I had to guess, right now I'm only going to be into this for right at $200 or so.

$65 150W Amp shipped. (it just went up today....not sure why)

$12 stereo to RCA connector

That's it - well....plus the screen mesh and U-channel to make the
holes look professional. But overall right at around $200 for a stereo on a Busa.
(if you have an Ipod) + another $200-$300 with a sub.

the only thing I have NOT figured out yet, is where to get an Ipod steering
column mounting surface like those guys used. I might have to make one.
