So, this week I removed all the red decals off my 2011 and replaced them with the 2012 decals. Very easy to do, probably helped that I have been tinting windows since the late 90's.
I used a heat gun to loosen the adhesive. You must have the sticker just warm enough so the glue stays on the back of the decal when peeled. If it got too warm, it would easily separate from the back of the decal and stay on the bike. Also, the angle of the decal had to be just over a 90 degree and the right speed... Too slow, left glue... Too fast, left glue. Must have patients!!
I had nothing to go off of other than some images of the Internet, and body lines. This was all done by eye, start to finish probably about three hours. What took the longest was making sure that there was no trace of glue anywhere. I test fit all the pieces before pealing the liner off, taping it to the area where I wanted it, then using a grease pencil so I had some kind of reference.
When installed, I used what I would normally use to install window film. Spray bottle filled with water and a couple of teaspoons of baby shampoo. The shampoo provides slip to the solution to where I could move it around till I lined up the grease marking and used a hard card (3m Teflon ) wrapped in a paper towel to lock it in place.
One last decal to remove... I would have liked to get the 1340 but really liked the 2012 scheme. I think I saw somewhere you could get the 1340. Maybe down the line. I still only have 300 miles on it. This did set me back a bit, but well worth it. Thanks for looking.
It looks great and like it came that way. I kinda like the original red though. If my 09 Wht didn't have stripes under the paint on the tank I've thought about putting the decals you just took off on mine.
I do have a question though... How did you get Vab's scoot..???.. Are you changing out her decals too........Nice of you to do that for her while she is having her thing-a-ma-giggy removed...Good on you !!
