I've had the DL1000 for about 6 mos. My answer is it depends on how much off road you're going to do. Surely your research has pointed out the V Strom's weaknesses in the heavy, off road environment, being that it's such a heavy bike (as they all are) yet without the clearance the others have/claim.

I chose the V Strom because of its engine reputation: solid, easy to work on, dependable, reliable, etc. It is my ideal touring platform with the right tires. Parts available almost anywhere you go. Very comfortable to go long distance (although I've found my near-stock Busa to be as comfortable ... in a different way). I had never ridden off-road before - ever, so it's been a steep curve for me, but I find the V-Strom very forgiving.

The AT is serious off-road equipment, but you'll pay more.

The Tiger is the Goldilocks - does everything just right at the right price. My only reasons for not going with the Triumph are as stated above: reliability and availability. And it's a Suzuki.

Get all the add-ons if you go with the V-Strom: skid plate, crash bars. And watch out for sand:

C10 what made you go for the tiger instead of v strom, I've been looking at both plus Africa twin and super tenere but can't decide
Tiger was a smoking deal 5,100 off roughly , but after riding Super Tenere , V strom 1000 A 2019 year model . They were both to vibey for me . The Triumph is so smooth , and pulls like a inline four but with a unique sound . 10,250 redline with limiter kicking in just shy of 11,000 K . The other two do not pull that high . Shaft drive is sweet over chain service plus single side swing arm makes rear wheel work a 2 min job .

It was an awfully long time ago but I remember the challenge of going through sand....hopefully it's going over and not through because you can't go through it. Maybe the trick is to go really fast...but if that doesn't keep you afloat, I guess you crash even harder.

My friend who is a die hard Suzuki fan and now owns a Honda dealership (he had Suzuki but they pulled out as part of their reduction plan), rides an African Twin and loves it...he said it has gobs of torque and lots of features...

A funny story he told me-the bike is a demo and he jumped on it to do a little business admin and noticed it was down on power, really down on power...when he got back he handed it off to his service techs to see why...he later found out he had it on gravel mode. They put it on sport mode and he said it was a whole other beast....

I say go with whatever can give the best aftermarket repair and parts as they are all pretty close.

sure if wanted a divorce ;)
wel...that's what I did. Then I got another bike after the divorce! Sad part is I can't afford a nice home on one income now. I'll have to build it myself like everything else. Man I tell ya,....wimin!

I think the girl you got is a keeper. She's worth more than bikes and she appears to be happy to own one herself too.

Hi. The one I am with now is 39 yrs younger that me. If she said NO RACING OR NOT BIKE OR GET THAT JUNK OUT OF OUR BEDROOM. I WOULD SAY BYBY I am going miss you! My wife left because I would not stop racing. I was going out with a girl and she said that I could not go for a bike ride because she wanted me to take her and her kids to the beach that Sunday. Well that was the end of us.

@michael parris heuberger sounds like that one was about over beach or no beach.

So 39 years younger? You hold the record among the men I know by quite a lot. Damn dude, you're not that old! You must have been singing this song which she never heard before much less Aretha Franklin! 1981, she might not have been born yet. I'd settle for a girl 25 years younger than me and she would still be old enough to be your girl's mom. Damn dude.
