Got a question from anyone who may be in the neuro field or know someone who can shed a light on this. I'm Active Duty AF and going to meet a medical board within 4 weeks and be retired. I was submitted to the board about 6 weeks ago. However, in the mean time I had an MRI done becuase of some numbness in the arms for past few years that was of concern. The doctor at a nearby base ordered an MRI on me. After 7 weeks they had not made contact at all and I remember to go to my doctor and request status from the Neurologist on findings. My doctor said in a quite frank way "you have consistancies with multiple sclerosis". Here is the deal, they were not going to say a word since I had already been submitted to a medical board and this would mean per Air Force Instruction (AFI) that the Military Treatment Facility Commander would have to recall my initial Narrative Summary (NARSUM) due to signaficant change in members health. Trust me, they want this to just go away! I force their hand and ingage with the neurologist and took just over 2 more weeks to have the 1st appointment with him for what should have been a discussion on issues/concern/proper diagnosis and treatmet... bla bla bla. In the mean time I'm told the medical board will not wait and it will go on for I do not have a difinitive diagnosis. Exactly whey the AFI exist to pull the medical submission to get a difinitive diagnosis. With me on this.. drag their feet while pushing forward becuase with a difinitive diagnosis on my problem and if it's in the ballpark of MS, then the AF and not the VA but the AF will have to tac on an additioal rating and for MS it would be a minimum of 30% on my AF retirment check. So, I'm pushing buttons such as the base commander via email and identify the snail at the local base hospital and his and the AF medical board scheme to do the slow crawl. Now, were moving forward and it's not because the base commander gives a **** but has knowledge of this issue and must act to cover his own ass in case CNN wanted to ask questions. So, now the good neuro doctors is ready to work. Did a spinal tap on the 1st appointment with him and 10 vials of blood and just over two weeks later called and said no MS and good to go! He was not aware I had already got copies of my CD ROM with CT_MRI and blood word from his young Airman tech. Words on this info say.... "multiple rare lesions on the brain and Demyelinating Desease". Demyelinating Desease is about the same shid at MS. So, I ask him when he was just so ready to end the converstaion and wash his hands and grin about his good deed! What about the lesions on my brain sir? Very quickly said it could be cholesterol or maybe a previous stroke. Was not at all willing to discuss anyting else and to forward me to the medical board agin without a diagnosis. I'm thinking and I hope you are thinking and this is my question if you guys have a wife or a friend in the field.... multiple rare lesions on the brain, and I'm having for years now numbness in my arms and since last Feb 08 I had left side of my head go number fron eyebrow to rear of neck and below my left ear. I continue daily to have left head numb/tingling/burning deep down within the brain and it's triggered by emotions. Anger/deep concentration/laughter will trigger this at almost anytime and last for hours to days even with meds for nerves and or pain. So, I pushed for a refferal and they simply have said that they are not concerned with lesions on my brain. Lesions are common and lots of people have lesions on their brain and it does not mean anything and to stop worring about it. Anywho... guess we can all turn to google but wanted a real quick spill from a doctor or a friend of a doctor that says lesions are serious or yep, common, we all have them and especially if you ride a Busa! What say you?
