I dont believe in letting animals suffer either.
When I was in the Corps I cam home from work one night (was working night shift)
As I was getting out of my car some idiot was speeding down the street and turned in front of my house and hit a cat.
We had problems with people speeding and it really pissed me off. My family and I love all animals. we have dogs, cats, frogs, had a scorpion or two that I picked up when I was TAD (woke up in the middle of the night and the thing ran across my foot lol)
Anyway, I walked over and saw the cat had drug himself out of the road he was pretty much flattened and no way he was going to make it even if I had tried to get him to a hospital. The guy who ran the cat over had stopped and came over and some kid on a bicycle was there. I looked at the cat and knew it was suffering and there was no way it was going to live, it really pissed me off.
I looked at the guy who hit the cat and the kid and I told them "if your squeamish you better not watch"
I was wearing my combat boots and I slammed the heal of my boot down on its neck and twisted really quick to snap it. It was done in a half a second and the cat was no longer in pain.
It almost broke my heart to have to do it but I felt it was the right thing to do so I did it.
The guy who hit the cat almost threw up and ran to his car and drove away and the kid on the bike road off real quick.
I love animals but sometimes if you love animals enough you have to make a hard choice to put them out of their misery when stuff like that happens.
I would do the same for any of you if needed
