I got pulled over a couple years ago here in Kansas, cop says that is an illegal display of tag.  I say "Um...sorry no it is at the rear of the vehicle and it is illuminated."
Cop says and I quote "I can write you a ticket for anything I damn well please, it is your money and time to try and get out of it."
Took 2 pics of my bike and went to court.
"Your honor this is the vehicle in question during the daylight hours and this is the same vehicle after dusk with the illuminated tag."
Judge says: "Looks fine to me, dismissed."
Cop gave me a huge stare down as I walked out with a smile.

Sounds like he had it in for you, get some light bolts to shine down on the tag and let it go.  If he pulls you over again take it to court.  FIGHT THE POWER!

MC I also have the st machine side mount plate bracket and I am in Broward county. I have not yet had any problems. My plate's numbers are in towards the wheel. You definetly can not see the numbers from three feet away. I normally ride either first thing in the morning or late at night

Yeah,
I have had mine on for about a year and this is the first time I have gotten any grief about it. The guy followed me for awhile before he pulled me over, so I am sure that it was the lean angle that caught his attention. As I said before, I have an email into the FHP to get clarification on the plate position requirments.

they can say you need a light on it but if its facing the rear and in full view it should be legal

The 2005 Florida Statutes

Title XXIII
MOTOR VEHICLES

Chapter 316
STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL

View Entire Chapter

316.605 Licensing of vehicles.--

(1) Every vehicle, at all times while driven, stopped, or parked upon any highways, roads, or streets of this state, shall be licensed in the name of the owner thereof in accordance with the laws of this state unless such vehicle is not required by the laws of this state to be licensed in this state and shall, except as otherwise provided in s. 320.0706 for front-end registration license plates on truck tractors and s. 320.086(5) which exempts display of license plates on described former military vehicles, display the license plate or both of the license plates assigned to it by the state, one on the rear and, if two, the other on the front of the vehicle, each to be securely fastened to the vehicle outside the main body of the vehicle in such manner as to prevent the plates from swinging, and all letters, numerals, printing, writing, and other identification marks upon the plates regarding the word "Florida," the registration decal, and the alphanumeric designation shall be clear and distinct and free from defacement, mutilation, grease, and other obscuring matter, so that they will be plainly visible and legible at all times 100 feet from the rear or front. Nothing shall be placed upon the face of a Florida plate except as permitted by law or by rule or regulation of a governmental agency. No license plates other than those furnished by the state shall be used. However, if the vehicle is not required to be licensed in this state, the license plates on such vehicle issued by another state, by a territory, possession, or district of the United States, or by a foreign country, substantially complying with the provisions hereof, shall be considered as complying with this chapter. A violation of this subsection is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318. [/QUOTE]

Got pulled over on my way home from work...
This trooper had followed me for about 2 miles before pulling me over. I think it was because I got into a pretty agressive lean coming through an intersection into a left hand turn. Anyway, he proceeds to tell me that he could have the bike towed if I don't have the ability to restore the bike to manufacturer's configuration witht he plate on the read attached to the undertail (I have an ST Machine plate relocator that I will now be selling), but when he sees my ID card he tells me that he will simply issue me a fix it ticket, however, if I am spotted again without complying, it will be a $79.00 fine for disregarding the fix it ticket, a 79.00 fine for having an improperly displayed tag, and the bike would not be allowed on the road until I fixed it (meaning that I would have to leave it there until I changed the mounting bracket).
Anyway, sort of sucked that the only ticket I have ever gotten on a motorcycle was for something dumb like this, but I have gone way too fast and probably should have been caught for speeding by now. So, at least I am thankful for that.

Just wanted to let you guys know. I still think that he wouldn't have pulled me over, had I not been trying to scrape my pegs into the turn.

Oh well, will be puting the ST Machine plate relocator in the classified section tomorrow.
I had a cop bother me about the same exact thing I have the ST Machine license plate relocator and chain guard. She told me to take off my license and make it horizontally on the license plate holder. She didn't say anything about additional tickets either. I was in north carolina when this happened and when I crossed back over the south carolina line I stopped and put it back the way it's suppose to be

In SC it's legal for a license plate to be in the horiz. position. Sorry about getting harrassed over some buull$hit!

I'm not sure but I do not believe she could have written you a ticket. My understanding is that if your vehicle passes inspection in your state and you are not moving to the state in which you are pulled over nor a new resident, then on your way you go.

That's like saying to visit SoCal I'd have to have my Texas-legal vehicle pass California emissions, move my tags to my plate (if they are still there on the plate in Cali) vs my windshield (as in Texas), and who knows what else.

California wants you to register here and pay the state, if you're here for more than six consecutive months. That's six months IN A ROW. So when stopped just say you went home for a few weeks last month, thanks for asking Officer. I've made some copers very angry about that one. That and the one where they ask you how much you've put into your car/bike since you bought it and registered it. It sounds like this: Cop "Nice rims kid. Bet they cost a lot, right? How much?" When you tell him, his next question hangs you and gets your ride towed away: Cop "Did you tell the DMV so they could raise your registration fees? No? Sorry kid there goes your car/bike". This is the anti-cruser scam and the LAPD and CHP use it a lot. If you'd said naa, it came like this you get to drive away free. Grrr....
