MC MUSTANG what state are you in? Before relocating my plate I checked with the Texas DPS. As long as its lighted and visable from the rear its good to go. And I must say the Texas DPS does't play games at anytime! Like insurance rates everything is state to state. And its about as cool as it gets being pulled over by a street cop and tell him my plate was "OK'ed" by the DPS!

Here in SI NY the police make it a point to stop everyone on rice rockets and issue tickets for everything thats against the law. Everything!
The only mod I made was a pipe and I'm waiting for a friend of mine to make me a DOT sticker for it.
I heard of someone getting away with it. A couple of my friends got tickets for all cosmetic stuff and when one of them ask why aren't they checkin any Harleys they told him to thank the wheelie boyz for that. Is that some shid or what. Oh well. I guess so far I've been lucky but thats probably because I don't ride much.

Wow, FHP never messes with people about piddly stuff like that. I think you caught the wrong guy on the wrong day! Normally it is just the small town cops that get bent about something like that. There are some little towns that i won't even ride or drive through anymore because all the do is collect money for their department or ummmm, i mean issue safety violations and or write tickets ( you all do know that the issueing law enforcement agency recieves 50% of the funds collected for fines and penalties, don't you...........)

once I got a fix it ticket for not having a chain guard, over worn tire and improper undertail/plate. I had 24 hrs to show up to the 'Quebec provincial police' with the fix. I install a friend chain guard that didn't really fit. And for the rest didn't do anything. THe ticket was kinda vague that when I showed up they could tell exactly what was the problem so I was able to talk my way out of it. It oftem depends on the LEO point of view.

happened to me a few weeks back. I got pulled over, and he said the bottom 2 numbers were not readable. I juts told him I just put this undertail on, and didnt wanna screw a bracket into it, and mess it up, so my friend was making me one for it. He said ok and gave me a verbal warning.
I just dont know why the hardley guys get away w/ it.

what state statute was listed on the "warning"?
I am looking at the "Faulty Equipment Notice" and it reads: Improper Tag Display, but the is no statute number anywhere on the notice.

Gonna do some research today!

Get a swingarm bracket, Fully legal if the tag is facing the outside, I have been pulled over 3 times this year and I only bring a picture of where and how the plate is mounted for the judge. Over all you can tell them to start sucking you off if they continue to give you problems.

That is exactly what I have, of the rear of my swing arm, only it is the ST Machine version, so it bolts to where the chain guard mounts....

I will post a pic....

I just spent about an hour looking through the Fl statutes, this is the closest thing that I could find.... I sent the FHP an email for clarification.

316.410 Taillamps.--

(1) Every motorcycle and motor-driven cycle shall have at least one taillamp which shall be located at a height of not more than 72 nor less than 20 inches.

(2) Either a taillamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration plate and render it clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear. Any taillamp or taillamps, together with any separate lamp or lamps for illuminating the rear registration plate, shall be so wired as to be lighted whenever the headlamps or auxiliary driving lamps are lighted.

(3) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.

Cops can cool but others can be A-holes, like you said he saw you leaning a corner hard, so he was trying to find something on you. I have always had customized trucks, years ago I got pulled over (in my truck) for having custom taillights in the rollpan, (under the tailgate) and the stock ones filled. He had me on the side of the road for about an hour trying to find a statue number to write me a ticket, he never did. (since I had working tail and brake lights) he was mad, i could tell, but he had to let me go.
