I keep mine at 1250. You usually notice knock the most when you try to accelerate in a higher gear than usual. It will make kind of a rattling sound. The extra load seems to accentuate the knock. I recently switched from 93 to 87 octane, and I haven't noticed any difference. Course, being old and deaf probably hinders me, but I think 87 octane is fine.
Someone asked if we were supposed to use 87 octane. That's what the instruction books says. You can't hurt anything using 93 octane, but it's just a waste of money.
93 will kill about 2 ponies and waste $$$
