Hayabusa stablemate- opinions on the TL1000R

Greeting,

I rode a 98 TLR for 8 years loved it. And it had its own sound when coming down the street. I agree with everyone else, the bike makes a boat-load of torque but not much horsepower. It is a fast bike, but not a quick bike. If you want something that makes power at low rpm's then the TLR is your bike. As far as the plastics they are not interchangeable with no other bike, but the pegs, heel guards, rear set, and chain guards are interchangeable with the GSX-R 600. How I know because I ordered those items from JDA Customs when I was customizing my bike.

Time to resurrect the thread. Found a 98 TLR that was in my price range!!! Jeez, only took 2 years of looking.

Bike needs a little TLC, but is in pretty good running order. Ordered a rear tire, water pump gaskets and replaced some bulbs. Trying to get her in running order for the wifey.

If I could weigh in! The TL1000 is a great bike! I had a chance to take a ride on one. It was much different then what I was used to. (Back then ZX12A) But it is honestly a very different feel. This bike is not a zx12 or 14 or a Gixxer 1K especially not a busa. But it's a bike in it's own class. I love those bikes. I know one thing you never see them on the street anymore. A classic in my book. If I had the extra cash I would love to have one in my stable. That white looks like a clean slate!

Very funny that this thread gets bumped with a new TLR owner. Hopefully I will also have an update for this thread this evening. Stay Tuned!

I like the white, but prefer the original yellow paint schemes. That looks like a Busa front fender, it's huge! Need to swap that puppy back out for the original smaller fender

I like the red the best.

Yep, Busa front end swap. I kinda like the big fender.

I owned one for a few years, loved it more than Busa. never had a single problem with it.
Commuted on it for 2 years, sold it to a buddy, last year that thing has 100 000 on original engine and rear cyl exhaust was getting glowing red all it`s life.
changed oil every 3000 miles with mobil 1, brakes and tires, replaced bearings in both wheels. that`s it. big V-twin is so much fun to ride.
drop the clutch and it`s just goes. my girl hated rear seat though.

Selling my 03 with 6700 miles, yellow and black. Full Yosh system and Yosh box re-flash. Bike looks like new.

Selling on craigslist for $5000 or offers. Would sell to someone here for $4500.00. It's low millage and well taken care of. I have (3) bikes so it gets ridden every couple of weeks or so. Bought it in 07 with 700 miles on the clock and now has 6700. Done some minor mods but I really prefer stock looking bikes so I only really did grips, levers and a double bubble screen. The yosh full system was something I stumbled upon and really makes it roar. It's a bear to find a full system. It has a sprocket specialists 40 tooth rear and pilot power 2CT's with about 1K miles on them. Mostly it sits on stands in the garage. I'm in the Chicago area. I just don't ride it very much due to the (4) bulging disks in my back. Probably will sell my 04 limited as well. Been riding the B king mostly. The TL was a bike I always wanted and was lucky enough to get one that was pretty cherry.

DO NOT let it go for less than that!!! Some squid will destroy it. Wait for someone who will care for it as you did. These bikes are already rare enough...

Sorry, but I have to resurrect this old thread.

My neighbor runs a pawn shop. They had a slow month. He has a flawless 98 tiller in yellow. He's going to let me have it for 2800. It's got around 21k miles. Fired right up. I get to ride it tomorrow. Any reason I shouldn't look at this 98 seriously? Bad year? Problems? I've done some scouring, but not coming up with much.
