So I am on the lookout for a new bike. I started riding my 02 in March this year, starting with 30,000 k on the odo. My bike now has just over 67,000 k. I have put 37,000 kilometers on it in 9 months. It has been very well maintained and I don't stunt, wheelie or otherwise abuse it. I just ride....a lot.

I am a mature sensible rider. Is it better to sell it before it has to many k on it and I can still get something for it? How many k is TOO many? Or does it come down to how it was kept?

Is it pointless to buy another Gen 1 with low k or rather upgrade to a Gen 2? I mean, should I just ride my bike to its end and then buy, and not be able to get anything for mine.

A couple of pple have said why buy another Gen 1, it's just like re-buying the bike you already have. I also have head that if I ride a Gen 2, the difference between the two is enormous and I will never go back to a gen 1.

I know it all comes down to personal preference, looks wise ect, but its alot of money and I am just fishing for experiences of others, good or bad.

Thanks all, I know I just asked A LOT of questions!

Rode both - didn't see a big difference. I'd get a low mileage 1 and buy another used bike also.

When I bought my Gen2 ('08) nearly two years ago, my Gen1 (06LE) had some 22,000 +/- miles on it. The Gen2 has 56,000 miles on it...and the Gen1 still has 22,000+/- miles.

So, you're right. Once you get the Gen2, you probably won't ride the Gen1 much any more.

Just sayin'...

Good luck with your dilemma!

Well crap, if you are not using it, I will be more than happy to come pick her up for you. I know Pegusus needs to be ridden.

James..."Peg" definitely needs some more lovin'. One thing is certain...she is in PRISTINE condition; what a gorgeous beast she is.

Additionally, If you come this far, you'll probably never go home...so bring Juli and all your important "belongings" and we'll get you set up here...

:beerchug:

(1000 apologies for the temporary thread-jack).

i think the syyling of the gen2 totally antiquates the gen1. i rode and owne both and dont see a real difference in performance or handling (im not that good to notice if there is) but the lines and styly of the gen2 makes it an absolute no-brainer. the white 09 is probably the sexiest bike on the earth...

I've owned both, 36K on an '06 and 8K on an '08. There's a difference. Both bikes are great, if you get a smoking deal on a Gen I go for it. My local dealer has a new burgundy '07 on the floor. Didn't check the price.

having been a former busa owner (01 w 05LE plastics) i am a fan of the first gen and find the 2nd gen to be piggish,,,

i dont like it at all. who cares about how much more power the 2nd gen makes,,, maybe 5% of the guys on this board or any other use all the power a bike can generate and apply it to riding.

but that being said, get what tickles your arse

There does seem to be a lot of bias for the newer (more ugly  ) Hayabusa here on this board.

I agree that maybe 1% here (and yet to be seen) are capable of reaching either bikes full potential.

Antiquated? More like defined and separated! GenI with slight improvements changing the likes of rear suspension and radial mounted brakes and upgrade fork springs and valving, one could easily stave off having to pay out large to have the GenII and its heinous looks. What up with that tail anyway?

If you want big block with the GenI,, it has the better block anyway, so no swapping that out if you wanted to go to `1441. GenII blocks crack.

I have nowhere near the skill to even approach the limits of either bike. Own a Gen 1, have ridden both and honestly couldn't tell a difference.

I get a hair up my arse every once in a while to "trade up" to a Gen 2. All I have to do to cure that is look at the Gen 2 tail.

Then I go give my '06 a big hug and the world is OK again.

Saving my Gen 2 trade $$ for track days. Few mods and some added skill will make the power/handling differences between the Gens a mute point.
As for looks, I'll stick with my Gen 1.

Cookie, Can I be a member of your club? "Gen I looks antiquated"? Puhlese! Normally I don't get into these debates but why do people crowd around my Gen I Busa, stare at it and ask questions? Because it's old fashioned looking? I don't think so. Raydog
