Why not buy a GSXR1000?

I'm torn between the Hayabusa and the GSXR1000. Because I do a lot of 100 mile days, a lot of strait roads, and like comfort, I was leaning toward the Hayabusa. However, I'm worried that it will be a big trade off for wheelie and turns. Please talk me into the Hayabusa. Is there a big trade off in the fun department when it just comes to squirrelling around?

I'm buying one of the two in the morning so your feedback is welcomed.

Thanks!

what the 1000 does better than the busa:
- stunts
- twisties
- track days
- it's lighter

what the busa does better than the 1000:
- everything over 140
- comfort
- haul passengers
- touring
- heavier for calmer high speeds
- look unique
but with skillz, stunts, twisties, track days seem just fine - WITH THE SKILLZ, won't be as easy right out of the box

If your not much into really high speed, get the 1000. If you want SOME form of comfort along with all those other parts rolled into one, get the busa. my $2 worth

Well not sure if this will help you or not.
Just this weekend I had the opportunity to run with a GSXR1000 that has more mods than I. My Busa is stock save for the slip-ons. No matter how we hit it the 1000 just was unable to step up to the Busa.
If you do get the Busa it handles much better than you may think.
Just my opinion
Besides this is the best place to be.

Definitely go Busa...It seems like there are so many GSXR 600, 750, and 1k's around.  You get a lot more bike with the Busa, plus its very versatile.  Its a gorgeous tame beast, or a monster speed demon all in one.  Plus the Busa has personality.  The GSXR 1k is just another sport bike with a bunch of power.  And, to reiterate everyone's point...THIS IS THE BEST BOARD WITH THE BEST PEOPLE.  That should tell you something:  Busa rider vs. everyotherbike rider.  We win.

I am so tired of hearing this bike cannot handle well in the twisties. Well I am no pro rider, by any stretch of anyones imagination, but find this bike to be stable, predictable, and just plain trustworthy in a corner. I am actaully quite surprised how they managed to get so many things right with the design of this bike. I know they probably spent more time than with any bike in history designing the damn thing but occasionally with all engineering aside, you do have to just get lucky and have some extras fall into place. This bike is the perfect combination of all in my opinion. I also think that if you have to ask which bike is better for wheelies, twisties, etc., you are not at a level of riding performance that the bike will show you anything other than a good time for all. I don't mean this in a bad way at all. Just to say that if someone is a Patella dragin fool (that's knee cap for you non medical types) or isle of mann freak, the choice will already be obvious to go with the other bikes that at their fine tuned riding level will give them that slight edge they need.

I can't count the number of times this bike has seemingly forgiven my errors while riding her and allowed me to continue on and learn for another day. And that's with only 2800 miles on her. Get the Busa and if it's desire to pull the front end up isn't enough for you already, change the gears.

Hey man!  I didn't ask 'Which is better?'  I asked for some feedback on the performance tradeoff.  Ease up a bit dude.  And by the way, I just put a deposit on the bike below.

No harm, not meant to offend. It's late and I am kinda punchy right now. Is that an 02'?

Mine was lowered when I got it by the same amount if this is the one you where asking about in the other thread. I did not ride it in that condition though as I am not a fan of lowered, reduced clearance, bikes. Mine has adjustmenttech adjustable links in the rear and a Genamr handle bar riser in the front. So I just put it back to factory hieght. Did put a couple of wear marks in the hugger and undertail though when lowered. If you are not the one who was asking about the lowering stuff ignore all this and I will come back and cut and paste it to that thread.

PS. Welcome aboard!

No harm.  Anyway, thanks for the info.  Yeah, I'm the one who asked about the lowering.  Is there much advantage to keeping it lowered?  It feels a bit low to me so barring any other advice, I think I'm going to have it raised back to stock.

It's an '01 with 8k miles.

Congrats......only advantages to keeping it down is the reduction in ability to wheelie, which is slight, therefore easier to launch, if yer short, it's easier to hold up!!
And it just plain looks cool.

Congrats on your decision, as I'm late on this convo I'll say you won't be dissappointed in the Busa's power, comfort and handling. A skilled rider can wheelie this beast too, the problem however may come in the area of stoppies (lotta weight to place on you forks). Think ya made a good choice especially if you plan to do a lot of distance riding. That 1k will kill ya.

Yeah, you will not be disappointed about deciding to get this bike! It does everything well you just have to get comfortable with the size.

My take:

Didn't fit on the GSXR (with no hope of EVER fitting), kinda tight (but correctable) on the Busa.

Speed? Heh... "Everything else is prey..." as long as they spot the 100 lbs. I weigh more than them. I'm going to start weight-handicapping my drag races.

Remind me not to type at night. This is what I should have said about the lowering and probably put it in the right thread.

First I didn't like the look of the Busa.
I was going to get a Gixxer 1000.
That I thought of my wife, she always ride with me.
So I leaned toward the busa.
I also like big cc's and the fact that it was (and still is) the fastest.

I think everyone here will be a little more apt to side with the big busa. But the one thing that did it for me was that from 99 not much was changed and it is in a league all its own.
Meaning:

Between people who use the busa to pimp out, drag 1/4 mile or run for top speed records there is more aftermarket custom parts available for the busa than any other bike less HD. More performance goodies, lights, carbon fiber, fenders, chrome, wheels, extended swingarms, turbos, tails and countless other crap to make your bike "your" bike and not just a cookie cutter crotch rocket.

IMHO
