Sure im a squid but i just feel a lot safer knowing the reflectors are there so it makes me more visible at night. How come everyone hates em so much?
Yep they may be ugly, but ya can't see them while your riding the bike now can ya? Mine are still on and are gonna stay there. I bought my bike to ride not to look at, plus I don't give a flying fart what anyone else don't like about MY bike.

I haven't seen anyone add reflectors to the side of the bike to be seen better

Really not going to help when you're riding. But I could see a use for them when its parked.

But hey, I cut off those UGLY, HUGE stock rear blinkers and put in some nice looking iddy bitty LED blinkers. Yeah, no one can see my turn signals in the rear in daytime. But that's the way I want my Busa, so I don't care

The reflectors are on the sides of the bike. If a car is close enough to you to see them, it's already too late.
I disagree, I've seen bicycles from a great distance because of the reflectors.

I personally like the idea of reflectors, I too have a black bike. I do the the big round ones are a bit on the gaudy side, so I changed mine to rectangled one like come on the R1.

Kevin
OK but if your a long way off it doesn't matter anyway.

Simply put the stock reflectors are an outdated DOT leftover. They aren't going to do anything to help you been seen in any way that improves our safety.

Most 80 something percent of bike accidents happen from the front 3/4s an angle where the stock reflectors do nothing.

So can those stock reflectors and get some reflective tape on your machine and your helmet if you really want to be seen, but the stock reflectors are mearly lip service paid to the DOT by the OEMs.
For some reason Rev, when I read your posts it seems that you are always yelling. Maybe it's the new avatar. I feel indimidated.

I didn't feel that way with the bunny or emu, can you bring them back?

I've kept them on just to annoy all the other board members. I know it bugs the hell out of them, same as my center stand does...

Is that wrong?

Should I not do that?

reflectors might help..

they wont hurt. (safety perspective)

if you want to keep them.. keep them on..
however if you come to the spring bash.. some one will probably remove them for you

All the good jackets have reflective materials on them anyways. On your back, (where many cagers like to come from) and arms at the very least (to help side visibility). Geez, and you guys thought it said Joe Rocket or Alpinestars there just to help the ricers in their bombed up corollas feel at home.

Just something else to blow off and wreck the guy on the Kawasaki trying to keep up with you! Safest thing is to remove them in that case.

I still have my reflectors on my Busa, nothing wrong with them and less of a reason for the local authority to pull me over... Oh yeah, and after 1 year and 4 months of owning the Busa, I still have the stickers on

I'm thinking of hot knifing a few AOL cd's into reflector buttons. File them smooth around the edges, and glue them on the side of the bike.
I'm also contemplating taking a full disc, hot gun it to form inside the rear fender cover, and aim it high enough so if someone is coming up on me, they swerve out of the way so as not run up the back of me. Might be dangerous don't you think?
With my luck, the first time out with it, a cop runs off the road coming up behind me!

Cars have reflectors don't they? They still get into accidents at night and in the daytime just like bikes do. So much for the mandated reflector idea.

You could alsways get some reflective tape that matches the bike. Thats what I did. You can put them on and you can only see them at night. My 2 cents.

Lose the reflectors and go with reflective tape. The reflectors are just ugly.

In addition, the only time a cage is going to see that tiny, road level, reflector on the front or rear is at night. If they missed seeing my headlight hitting the street, the light coming out of the nose of the Busa, or my running light in the rear, my reflective pieces on my helmet and my jacket... they're hitting me anyway. At least I look cool getting scraped off the road!

its purely a personal choice thing, most don't like the look of them.
Well maybe it helps with looks but if you have a black bike like i do and you live down here in florida with all kinds of crazy people who are allowed to drive cars then you never know when one night some 40 yr old woman driving a minivan with 4 screaming kids in the back while she yaps on her cellphone will run you over
True,
But those reflectors won't stop her from hitting you... most of us just don't like them, but as Brendanp said, that's why I wear a reflective vest at night. It's a cosmetic thing, that's why you got that Black and grey helmet to go with your black and grey scoot. Ya got a great looking scoot -if ya want the reflectors on, leave 'em..... we're all just kickin' our thoughts around.
Like the Rubba said, most of us don't like the look of them, it disrupts the force or something.
By God that's it! Now I know why I've removed mine... because it disrupts the FORCE!

The stickers and reflectors keeps that new feel, everytime I take a ride and make it home, I put her back in the crate, so the next day I feel like I'm riding it for the first time :o)
