When to change chain and sprocket?

My 04 hayabusa has 12000 miles on it now. I have never had any trouble with the chain or sprocket and have kept them lubed. How can I tell if they need changed or not.

The teeth on the rear sprocket should be symmetrical, in other words both sides of the tooth leading up to the point should be the same. On the chain, the manual says to count out 21 pins on the chain (10 links plus one more pin), and the length of this section (center to center of the pins) should not be more than 12.57 inches.
