The snakes are coming out and i couldn't be more excited. Rattlesnakes are beautiful creatures and here in arizona we have 13 different species of rattlesnakes. Unfortunately already 6 people in the valley here in phoenix have been bitten by rattlesnakes. I am going rattlesnake hunting weekend after next and hope to snag a western diamondback, they are delicious fried. I have tried them baked, fried, bbq, and it has all been delicious can't wait to cook up some more this summer! Anyone else try rattlesnake?

I like snakeskin boots. And, really, there's no more appropriate place for a serpent than dead and wrapped around one's feet.

Agreed!! I don't think I could knowingly eat one.

by snag, yes snag them by the tail in most cases. If that don't work, my buddy will get it's attention and i'll grab it or dispatch by some humane way. I always eat what i kill and this year, im stocking my freezer with rattlesnake meat.:beerchug:

A friend of mine two years ago got bit by a western while doing landscaping at his parents house in north scottsdale, lucky for him it was a dry bite, extremely painful though. I have had some close calls with them in the past, living and playing in the desert presents some of its own challenges especially with the kids. I carry a .357 with cci snakeshot whenever im out with the kids, and i have had to shoot a couple snakes in years past, saved my butt a few times.

I have had Timber rattler when i lived in the midwest and to me it tastes a lil to gamey for me, but it was my first time trying it as well as cooking it so maybe it was just me.

A dead snake can't hurt ya, so yeah, I would try it. Hope you carry some "anti-venom" with you as well. Stay safe out there.

Yes sir, I eat me some rattle snake every year. Only the ones I dig up on my mother’s land….got to take the dens out every summer. I however do not have the stones to just reach down and grab it. I use a shovel and take its head off. Last year I ate a Mohave Green just for making me scream like a little girl. The bastard snuck you on me then attacked. Mohave’s are very aggressive! I was smart enough to have my walking stick with me so I played “wack-a-mole” with it and took it home and ate it.

Anti-venom has a Zero shelf life so you can't take any with you plus they are specific to each type of deadly snake. That is why you need to call ahead to the hospital or call 911 for an ambulance; this gives the hospital enought time to make the anti-venom. People die every year becasue they choose to take them selves to the hospital and then get told we have to make the anti-venom...opps you die waiting!

Well unless im absolutely sure i can grab it by the tail i don't risk it, most times it's a clean shot to the head with a .22 or some snake shot out of the .357. Mohave's are some evil lil buggers.
