Valva adjustment interval

The service manual calls for repeated valve clearance checks but I'm wondering at what mileage the valves actually get adjusted. A Suzuki service rep told me that they typically don't need adjusting until around 35k.
If your bike actually needed the valves adjusted, at what mileage were they done?

I just replaced my head gasket - at 12K. Of course upon reassembly, I checked the valve clearances...all were within tolerance.
