It's 1994, a warm summer Sunday summer night about 1:30 am and clear skies. I'm riding from Victoria BC to Nanaimo BC having attended a dinner party at a friends home. Just as I entered a long two lane straight straight stretch, running about 90 mph, 20 minutes outside of Victoria, at the beginning of GoldStream provincial park, forests on both sides, I spotted a pair of headlights coming up real fast behind me. Damn, I though, a cop with radar, I rolled back to about 70mph, and prepared to myself to talk the ticket down.

Why hasn't he hit his lights I wondered? Then the car passed me like I was standing still, they were doing at least a 100 or so. It was, and I know because my father had the exact same model, a 1973 Ford four door LTD painted flat black. Well, isn't that cool! I though, a big ol' land yacht hauling ass being driving just like was made to.

Then, about three seconds later the second car passed me, going just as fast, a flat black 1973 four door Ford LTD. Holy crap?! Is that a coincidence? What are the odds?

Then a few seconds later the third car passed me, a flat black 1973 four door Ford LTD....

Thats no coincidence, they are traveling together.

Why? Secret government agents? but why 21 year old cars? Moonshine? And why so fast if you are trying to be clandestine? Flat black all three?

I doubted my own sanity, but I did see them.
It puzzled me for years, but I think I eventually came up with a reasonable explanation, although it's just circumstantial evidence.

What do you think?

cheers

It was traveling down 41 from Green Bay to Milwaukee. I came up on a red minivan and could see a large animal moving around inside.

It looked like all the rear seats were removed. As I got closer it looked like a deer. I speed up and got next to the van and realized it was a reindeer.

That's when I got a glimpse of the driver. Of course it was a plump man in his 70s with a white beard and hair. It looked just like Santa Claus. Super bizarre.

One day heading north on the coast hiway north of Bodega Bay I saw two cars coming at me at a very high rate of speed, a Merc S class coupe and one of those super sedans Mercedes makes. They were followed by two more, fully camouflaged. Couldn’t tell what they were exactly but their appearance was close to the S class models. Behind them came two (more) Mercedes, an S class roadster and another sedan, all doing a buck forty or so, really haulin azz! Road testing I assume with four normal Mercs running rabbit for the camo models. How I wished I had their job!

This. Blocking the road. Just enough room to ride through the ditch and around. The vehicle was abandoned. Not a soul around. I've wondered about this for years. Platina Rd in Northern California. Very remote place.

I saw a car, a convertible from the 60s, can’t remember which now, up on its side like this with an unhurt couple standing by it. This was around the Stinson Beach/Tomales Bay area. That was years ago.

I believe that Bigfoot video and some of the alien abductions, but three flat black '73 LTDs in the middle of the night? Come on! There is no way.

If this "sighting" were to happen, I might guess that as part of the Blues Brothers continuing activity at that time someone specified those cars, perhaps for a tour or a video production. If they were unable to find the appropriate, as Steven Williams described, "s***box Dodge"s, those may have fit the look. The location does not reconcile but we know that sometimes one has to go far and wide for old cars. Everything from that era disintegrated. If this has any validity then perhaps the cars were heading to port?

...choked on my drink on that one
lmao
I needed that this morning...

I've seen a lot of weird things over the years but one stands out...

During one deployment in the late '80s I saw a motorcade travelling down a hiway consisting of 4 blacked out GSXRs surrounding a black Mercedes limo.....and they were really moving fast.....

A few days later I saw a couple of these blacked out GSXRs sitting in a parking lot on a military base with their riders also wearing full black leathers with sidearms...I asked why they were set up like that....they said they were part of a high speed escort for the president (of their country) and while out on the hiway they were on orders to not drop below 160kms/hr....

Sounded like a pretty cool job to me...

Summer afternoon, 2003
I'm on my '02 Gsxr1k (at the top of the food chain, at least most days back then, lol)
Doing about 160mph, 2 lanes, empty divided highway, cruising, and soon to slow back to the then 55mph speed limit.
I look in the left mirror, about a quarter mile back, very distinctly...late model 911 headlights, and apparently a turbo...as it was gaining rapidly on me!
I got back on the throttle too late, and still in a high gear, so the Porsche blew by.
I pulled back pretty good, but knew I had to let out of it and quickly slow down, as we were about to top a small hill and come into another straight stretch...where I had just came from minutes before...and knew there was a State Trooper in the median, lmao.
Now I had flagged my left hand down at the 911 before he passed me.
I knew it meant 'slow down, there's a cop ahead'...but he apparently thought that I meant to keep getting it, or just disregarded in general, lol.
When I topped the rise in the low 60's mph, I expected to see Smokey hit his lights and peel out of the median...nope.
The Trooper had already stopped an old minivan, on the right side of the highway, and just feet in front of the right hand exit that I would be taking.
What I saw next was shearly glorious...
That 911 had to have been doing 180mph+, in the right lane, and passed within just a few feet of the Trooper, who was standing at the minivan's driver window.
The Trooper didn't even turn towards us, but when that 911 passed...it blew his Smokey hat right off of his head, and it rolled several feet down the side of the road! Lmao!
He did a quick double left/right shuffle, as if to run to his car...or pick up his hat, lol, he then took a few quick steps, grabbed his hat...and went right back to his clipboard and the minivan driver!
He didn't even look towards the 911(which was almost out of sight), or grab his shoulder mic!
I'm Va, about 50 miles north of NC, and the 911 had a NC plate...and Alot of highway to go, he would never have outran the radio, at least not knowing local backroads and having hideouts, lol
I never would've belived a Trooper would've given up chasing a supercar(and one that just blew the hat off his head, lmao!) on empty long highway, and just continued with his minivan stop.
I've seen a few strange and cool things out riding...but that one will always stand out
lol

LOL, I think VA are pretty strict, ticket straight to jail, or so I hear.

211 NC, sitting next to a new Vette at a traffic light. Light goes green, he takes off, I let him go, easy 1st, go to 2nd and twist the throttle, this happens in seconds. I go flying past him around 90mph, close the throttle, he comes flying past. Next traffic light popo has him pulled over, I go past 55mph, popo looks at me and waves his finger, I just kept going with a sigh of relief.

Oh yeah, Va Troopers are not known for warnings, and 25mph+ is off to jail if they choose.
I've known a couple, and one once told a coworker, "if the blue lights come on...someone's going to pay the electric bill".

Arizona must be similar...I watch "Friday's with Frank" and he will often tell them that they were going criminal speed but he reduced the amount so they wouldn't have to go to jail and have their car impounded.....

I give much respect to any cop who will look at the individual situation, and make a rational judgement on how to proceed fairly, without throwing the book at them out of the gate.

Last week's episode...

All police should have a live feed camera crew with them to keep them honest......like "Live PD" used to do.
