Everyone does the front mod.  I would like to make the rear flashers into a running light as well.  I have stock rear turn signals and brake light and have no intention of changing them.  If I can get this to work, I could put a switch back (if they make a red/amber one) on the rear.  Is it as easy as using the trailer module that everyone use on an integrated brake light?

Thanks

All you would need to do is change the sockets in your signals to accept a dual filiment bulb. The lower wattage filiment connections would just hook up to the tail light power wire. Ground will remain the same and the higher wattage filiment connection from each socket would connect to the stock signal wires.

What Ive been confused about is the fact that folks doing the FRONT running light mod would use the rear blinker sockets and put them up front. DId I read this wrong? Are you saying that a 1157 socket is all thats needed for the REAR running light and tapping into the brake power wire?

The rear signals dont have alot of room inside the housing so you cant use the stock tail light sockets but places like pep boys and auto barn sell just the metal socket with wires comming out of it and that will fit with little to no mods.
The reason others use the rear sockets in the front is because they fit in to the front housings with no mods.

There's a difference between the rear turn signals, and the tail light sockets.

I believe that the sockets for the rear turn signals are 1156, not 1157; they are not designed for dual filament bulbs... which is why everyone uses the tail light sockets. Remember though, if you are going to use constant power, you need to tap either the plate light or the tail light; the brake light won't work. (you probably meant tail light, but just to be sure...)

Mabey wire the rear turn signals to the running light in the rear(taillamp) and use a relay to turn off the signal lamp when the blinker is on.Just a thought.

Switchback doesn't make a RED/AMBER combination that I know of....

MC is correct 1156 sockets in the rear, you need 1157's and a tap off the brown wire in the back to convert them to running/turn lights..

One issue I read about some time ago is that the housing are to small for the running lights to run full time. Heat builds up and will cause a meltdown.. I imagine if you go with LED bulbs that will not be an issue.

Thanks everyone for the guidance. Brown wire, tail light tap. Got it. Ill have to look into autoillum to see if they have a 1157 bulb for a red/red running light/blinker application.

Thanks

any of the 1157 red bulbs will do it.. low end is $5 per bulb up to $25 for the Eagle tower bulbs (what I have and they are bright)
