I'm using an Escort 8500 x50 with mono earphone(which doesn't stay in place inside helmet!),has anyone used stereo earbuds with the Escort 8500???

My ear bud I don't wear in my ear.. I just put it behind the liner in the helmet.. it actually worked real nice like that.. Take helmet off and hang on the mirror or unplug from the detector before getting off of bike though..

I think I tried stereo and the detector wouldn't recognize it.. as in no sound, not sure though..

I spliced/soldered mine into my MP3 Right channel earbuds. My MP3 is mounted on the triple tree, and the detector sits on the "dash". Both audio outputs are routed discretely and spliced together under the left fairing panel. I then routed it to an audio jack that comes out under the edge of my seat.

I put in my earbuds, put on helmet and once I et on the bike I plug into the audio plug under the left edge of my seat. Music plays stereo in both ears and the detector only goes off in my right ear. It works fantastic and has saved me more times than I can count (including Saturday when I was over 100 before slowing... close call!)

*NOTE* You need to use the Escort ear phone plug for the detector... it is a MONO plug. Standard earphones are Stereo and you will have issues with it cutting in and out if you try to use a standard 2.5 MM stereo earphone plug.

SpeedGeek,OK,your using "MP3" earbuds, what is the manufacturer of the earbuds?..and do they stay in place???..you listen to music and the radar detector...

I and many of my friends use the H.A.R.D. (Helmet Assisted Radar Dectection) and I don't leave home without it. A little spendy but well worth the $.

Yea, I was quite surprised at the price. I'm sure it's nice to have, but it'll be a while before I go spendin $160 on something like that.

I'm currently using the Sony Earbuds ~ $30
They stay in place pretty well, sometimes I have to put my helmet on a couple times to get it on without pulling them out. I route the wire inside my jacket and out between jacket/pants, or inside my suit and out the bottom end of the zipper.

I like it when I'm listening to music more than when I'm listening to the detector. LOL!

speedgeek, you can use the 8500 with stereo earbuds with an adapter from radio shack(pt#274-368)it's stereo-to-mono adapter..called escort, talked to techies, and they said that will work,or you can buy there "Ground Loop Isolater" for $25 which does the same thing,I'm trying to find a better earbud
that actually reduce's or eliminates outside noise, and stays in place....
maybe the one's they use in the NASCAR???

KS-Waterbug posted a thread about the Sennheiser 300B earbuds about 5 weeks ago. They were on sale, but I missed out on them then. Found a similar deal online (~$25 w/ free shipping) a couple of weeks ago and made the plunge. have had them for about a week now and they are nice. I have a tough time fitting earbuds into my ears but these do pretty well. Once in the ear you don't hear anything outside the helmet and they have good sound. I need to get an extension for mine though as the cord is only about 3-1/2' long.
