Hi Mate.
Just put my bike up on stands and had a play around to get some valid info.
At the speed sensor: Red/Black=Power, Black=signal, Black/White=Earth.
Check red/white short to chassis.
With Ign on check red/black 10-12V
With Ign on put meter on 10-20 volt scale and go between black and chassis, slowly spin rear wheel by hand and you should see a nice volt wobble between 1 and 5volts as it sends the sig to the speedo and EMC.
If you got power and earth and no sig out, new sensor time.
Otherwise it might be a supply or earth issue.
Oh yeah, stab (carefully) the wires as close to the sensor as possible, that way if you get the right output you can work your way back up the harness to look for an open circuit.
With any luck this will pin down the prob unless its a coincidental failure in the speedo.
