No shirt, no shoes, no english...

Just heard that the famous Philadelphia Cheese Steak maker, Geno's, has declared that you must order in English if you want service.  Good for him!
Not cool at all (no english, no service) ! Thats some fugged up shiat!!!!! So what if you had friends or family from another country on vacation  visting while you where at work and they wanted to stretch their legs visiting the surrounding site and get a bite to eat ?

Better yet, how about if the shoe was on the other foot and your Spanish or German wasn't up to par and was overseas on vacation ?
If we were in another Country and could not speak the Language and had a problem ordering...
And made the mistake os causing a scene...
We could well be arrested for causing a commotion and strongly invited to leave said Country...
If we don't adapt and fit in in another Country we are really asking for trouble...
All this guy is saying is learn at least enough English to function in Public...
I don't think he is out of line...

Hey Dave, my comment wasn't in regards to the link only the post title. Personally I've experienced that all people in other countries will be willing to help a person if they make an effort and can aleast say some basic words such as hello, goodbye, thank you.

Any friends I have had from another country (Peru), have taken the time to at least learn a few basic phrases to communicate and have a translation booklet.  Not too hard to figure out how to order a hamburger in any language if you make an effort.

And if they did not know any English and wanted to run around while I'm at work for some strange reason since they only came from out of the country to see me, they better take some time to learn how to get around if somebody is not going to be with them.

Finally, I have been to numerous countries in Europe and although many people know some English there were many times they did not and I had to learn some basic foreign speaking skills to do things...like order food.  My first attempt was actually in their language and only if I had trouble would I ask if they spoke English.

If not I was SOL and moved on.
My point ! They didnt turn you away cuz you didnt speake the language. Once again, response was to the title and not the link posted.

Rhythm,

Seriously, what's wrong with the title?

You walk into any 7-11 or convenient store and they have signs stating "No shirt, no shoes, no service." You don't hear all the shirtless and/or shoeless wonders raising hell declaring, "Who has the right to tell me I have to wear a shirt and shoes?"

If Geno is telling his customers to order in English I don't think he is asking too much. You have to start forcing those who stubbornly refuse to learn somehow, somewhere. Why not start at the basic levels, ordering food.

In essence, I was turned away, but it was my own fault. I didn't blame them. If I knew the language better I could have communicated. They just looked at me in confusion and I walked away or I slapped down more than enough American dollars and pointed.

I didn't get p!ssed and revolt because they didn't speak English. IT was my problem. Just like those here in America who can't communicate. It is their problem, not mine, and I should not have to conform because they won't make an effort to learn.

This does not mean I don't make an effort to communicate when I do come across those with badly broken English.

Geno may not have any problems in the future. The ICE teams are rounding up ills as we speak. They are being shipped to El Paso then back to their native country... This thing (round ups) will be big for a long time ...

Thank the protests for the windfall in political capital this will now generate. Going to be hip for a while to round 'em up.

I've been meaning to get out there to either Pat's or Genos for some time now. I'm taking the next trip that brings me near there...Mmmm Cheesesteak.

Tru that, Playa, but that just common courtesy. Would you really want to be standing in line behind some funky azz kid smell'm like azz and fritos that just came from a construction site not wearing a shirt.
I just think a few of us are just bout stress out with all thats been in the news with the Illegall Img and are lashing out. Hopefully innocent people (foreignr) dont get caught up in the hype.

A hardcore Racist (Good Ole Boy) doesn't care how much loot you (other races or culture) have or how much they will loose by not selling out to the enemy.

It aint about the money !!!!
Now you're just throwing sh!t and hope it sticks. RACIST??? You don't know he's Racist. It's amazing how people throw that term out loosely.

Not all Spanish speaking people are Hispanic or African American looking. I've met several Spanish speaking individuals from Spanish speaking countries individuals who look as everyday Joe College white as me.

I believe it's a simple American Pride issue that ties into the current immigration problems America now has the burden of dealing with.

Please keep in mind Rhythm that any "innocent foreigners" that are here legally are required by law to take tests and learn English before becoming a US citizen.

Oh and I wouldn't want to be behind 10 people in line who don't know how to order a cheesesteak because they can't speak English either.

U'r crazy !

BTW Geno says he will not be turning you away, his staff will be happy to help you learn to pronouce "Cheesesteak, wit" so you can order in English.
biggrin.gif

So guess all services should card and check papers of all non english speaking individuals to verify if they're legit ?

I think maybe we got off track. So in summation, I'm glad to see somebody, in this case, Geno, start something to force those who refuse to learn and/or speak English to do so. They will be beter off for it as well.

Like Geno said, "This is AMERICA."

I hope they loose a lot of business for a while...perhaps those customers will head back from whence they came.
Perhaps it will make the lines shorter for those of us that actually spend our money in this country and support our way of life....instead of hording it and sending it back to foreign nations.
Face it..... 99/100 people that can't speak english in this country are illegal. So they shouldn't be allowed shid!
The other 1% are a 50/50 split between tourists with visas (legal traveling) and rednecks....(i.e. Blue Collar Comedy types) lol

wink.gif

I feel another rant coming on...I need to stop now.
mad.gif

BTW....I can now officially add Atlanta to my list of cities that needs to be nuked.
Miami
New York
Detroit
Chicago
The lower 2/3rds of California
and now Atlanta.

Largest concentrations of useless people on the planet that think the world owes them everything.

Who do you think is paying (helping) them to stay here in America ? Lets stay focused Playaz !!!!!

Although I know you are being sarcastic, I will respond by saying they should say something like, "Sorry sir/ma'am, I can't understand what you are saying if you don't speak English. I apologize. Adio's!"
