New toy...

Nice guns gentlemen. But now I have a question?

I am really, really close to buying a H&K 45 (like maybe tomorrow), but I originally had said I was gonna get a Sig when I started looking.

I have shot H&K 40 before, and it was sweet, but I have never shot a Sig. I have a friend who is an ATF agent and she tried to steer me to a Sig 40.

SO WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Sorry to threadjack, but a brother needs some advice.

Sig also makes a very nice .45

I've owned both full size and compact HK & SIG - both are very nice, but I think its what you like the feel of better. The Sig weighs more, but balance's a lot better in my opinion. Also, I have had several "Stove-Pipes" with full size HK usp .40 - now my compact HK .40 does has never had a failure to fire.

The Sig has a smoother trigger, but no safety...the HK depending on the Variant almost always has a safety (but can be changed not to have one).

Polymer is nice, but like I said it does not balance in the hand as the Sig does. I also think the Sig has less recoil, due in part to more weight. Both have a good factory finish.

Both have different sights, HK use 3 Dot sights, and Sig uses Bar/ Dot (Combat sight) - and the Sig lines up on target for me much quicker...thought I may be alone in this opinion.

For the .45 HK SOCCOM is a beauty, but gonna run you well over $1,500.00 if you can find one...Now Sig has some Tac Driver's also, but for years they focused on a Very high end 9mm...costing several thousand....but their newer .45 is very nice and will deliver great results.

I could go on for hours on the difference's but I would suggest you rent both, and shoot a few mags through each and let your results make the decision. Good luck, and either way you go your gonna be very happy...but they are both very different in my opinion.

Hope this helps

I like Sig triggers better. I also like the feel and pointability of a Sig better. They just work better for me. In addition to the feel and triggers, HK pistols are sooo frickin' large compared to everything else. The shop I bought from had a HK SOCOM .45 and the thing felt as big as a hockey stick. It was freakishly big. I swear it felt as big as a Desert Eagle .50 cal. It dwarfs a P220 and even a full size 1911. I can't imagine carrying one.

That's just me though. I say handle both as much as possible and go with the one YOU like best, not what I like best. I don't really think you can go wrong either way as long as you like the feel of what you get.

Have a H&K .45 compact I got from my brother. A little small for my large hands but shoots nicely and works well for concealment - yes I'm licensed.
Have a .38 revolver for the misses (just pick it up and shoot necessary) and a 12 gauge parkerized Mossberg 500 @ 20" if a B&E burglar breaks into the wrong castle.

hey playa..I can't tell you the differences between the HK and the Sig. Up until the time I got mine, I was strictly a wheel gun guy...primary reason being I had never shot a semi auto that I could hit the inside of a barn with..

All I can say is that after 5 yrs of ownership...all my wheel guns sit in the safe. (except for my S&W airweight .22) and the sig has become my fav by a large margin. It has NEVER jammed. Dam thing works flawlessly.

I am sure the HK is a great weapon, but I can tell you for sure you will not go wrong with the Sig.
