did you know that those cones in the front of the scram jet engines vibrate inorder to "break-up" sonic wave compression of the air to allow for proper flow, compression, and combustion of the air in the scram jet engines....(dont quote me on all the details been quite a few years since i studied the sr-71 engines make up and air flow/cumbustion).....and its top speed is still classified

 But Chrisjp, the Blackbird was powered by two Pratt and Whitney J-58 axial-flow turbojets each capable of producing around 32,500 lbs thrust. (not Scram Jets).
Its true the intakes are variable, Concord has a similar device to control inlet air flow at high mach numbers.
Its a shame that both these great aircraft are now static displays, and the latest designs are just bigger version of existing aircraft (777 and A380). To me this is a backward step, but rumours are the Blackbird has been replaced by a true Scram jet, but we will have to wait 10 years for pictures, can't wait
