Just to throw my 2 pennies in the hat, I ride with two fingers covering the brake. I've tried doing the 4, but it just doesn't feel right. I have much better feel and precision on the throttle when I only have 2 fingers covering the brake. I have no worries about having any trouble locking up that front brake even with one finger so I do what's best for throttle control.
