Milatary Person

He was probably an Air Force reserve cook, trying to act like a real soldier.  Lame...
Now that is just plain silly. USAF services (cooks/mwr/gym) troops are some of the highest trained in interpersonal skills due to their customer service environment. The social misfits are guys like me with my prior communications career field. We were not taught much about how to carry ourselves as opposed to the services peeps.

Chances are the soldier wasn't even talking about the OP. He was probably referring to another person in his own party.

Used to see a lot of admins wearing Ranger tabs because they are assigned to the Rangers not rangers but authorized the beret and tab... REMFs are universally thought of with some disdain so it's not as unlikely as you may think... Used to see a lot of folks working as SOCOM acting as if they were in fact front line operators, never mind the fact that they were never active duty in any branch. I'll bet a couple bucks that this is what was going on, the OP over heard this comment and being a little unfamiliar with the language or just not expecting some negative energy from a soldier and felt threatened, took it personally...

Regardless the soldier was having a bad day, shoulda just bough them a round of drinks. Small gestures can sometimes make all the difference.

That was a wierd comment. I probably would've turned around and asked him what he meant by that to be sure. If it was a rude comment made at civilian people than I would've corrected him. I've had to do that a couple of times to the fresh meat of the military. He'll grow up hopefully. His recruiter probably told him that he was something special but they're using anything to recruit for the Army these days. They're taking anything that breathes and has all their limbs.

this is exactly what I mean...ignorant views like this.  We don't even have "cooks" in the Air Force...I know some "real soldiers" that would beat the piss out of you for making fun of our services specialists, since Air Force food is highly sought after during joint operations. Don't be hatin brother...

You missed the irony and sarcasm. I didn't say anything about civilian food service specialists, and Air Force food is indeed highly sought after. Army chow isn't quite the same (I've only eaten in Air Force chow halls a couple of times...more like a restaurant than a chow hall). I was referring to a smack talking, nameless, faceless, self entitling PX commando of the non-combatant type, pretending to be something he's not, while putting others down. Like you said, Air Force Reserve cooks (referring to actual military personnel, like in the old days) don't exist so, whom did I insult?? The Fairy Godmother?

Ok, how about this, to make it more direct:

Probably some REMF. Nameless, faceless person of non-specific background or branch, who is trying to impress people around him, making himself feel better by bringing others down, because he isn't happy with himself and his accomplishments, etc etc etc.

That better?

As far as "beating the piss" out of me, well, ok. *chuckles* That sounds like something an Air Force Reserve Cook would say!

LOL. "I keed! I keed"

My first thought is without more information I would say this post is either B.S. or there is more to the story either purposely not being shared or mroe to the story than "pcosho" is aware of (i.e. the comment was intended for someone in their own group)

and worse case scenario, the comment WAS intended for "pcosho" and their group and NOTHING was done to deserve it, then the person was probably having an extremely rough day. no telling what had happened.

I have been working with the department of defense, military, mostly Marines and Navy, Air Force on occasion for over 20 years and I can assure you that most service member have and show more respect for people than the general public.

so if this did really happen and it wasn't warranted I assure you it was an isolated incident.

As others have mentioned however, if anyone notices a service member "ESPECIALLY" in uniform exhibiting actions unbecoming of a service member and you feel you need to report it get the persons name, rank and report it.

remember the military does some very intense brainwashing .How else would they go kill and feel good about it.
Comments like these crack me up.

By your comment it is obvious you have no clue to ANYTHING about the military.

Not even worth trying to explain you you anything because you just wouldn't get it.

Good luck with your perception on life lol...

So this crazy military Chef brings the general the steak he ordered at the chow hall with his thumb over the meat.
"Are you crazy?" yelled the General, "with your hand on my steak?"
"What" answers the Chef, "You want it to fall on the floor again?"
