Face it folks, our day may have come  . With this and the new ZX-10...if only they were a smidge more comfortable to ride. ...
My BMW K1200RS cured me of car lust. Forever. I'll never want another high-performance vehicle with four wheels, there's simply no point.

The 'Busa has, in theory, cured me of bike lust. I also derived some comfort from it being top of the heap, but I love it even so -- especially it's broad torque range and its looks.

I may have finally reached the point where I'm getting "happy" about the ride I have. It's a good feeling, even if in the realm of comparos my baby's no longer #1.

Just means I have to become a better rider  .

For you non track riders how do you measure performance or is it just about the numbers?

Well, duh, you start by buying magazines, then you call your friends and meet up at the local Starbucks. Then you proceed to talk for hours on a perfect riding day, sipping $50 worth of coffee. Then you sell your bike three months later with 200 miles on it and order next year's model.[/QUOTE]
I always thought it would be easier/cheaper to chat about what could be... :type:

If you really want to know what these bikes can do take them to the track and then on a 500 mile tour and compare performance and comfort.  That is the best overall gage.  For you non track riders how do you measure performance or is it just about the numbers?

Numbers have some effect on machine choice.  (IE:busa)
In this case it is important to me that the numbers improve over the 2000r1, 2002 r1.  I honestly could give two craps if the new blade, ninja or gsxr are better in the numbers department.  Street bikes gots to be sexy as well as fast.  That is where this particular machine accels.
How do I measure performance? How easy does it wheelie, stop, turn in, lay over, accelerate?  Things like that.  you can feel a difference.  I am not exactly sure what your asking, I am not trying to be a pain.
I am sure the r1 will be a wicked track tool, however If a track bike is what you need, r6's and gsxr600's are much better for the task.

R1's are a farking blast on the street, that's where they shine if you ask me.

And yes they are torture racks when doing 500 mile trips, but if that's what you do you would not consider a literbike.
My point sir is that very few busa owners on this site put performance mods on the bikes and use them. Then they will bash on other bikes just off numbers posted. Take your machines to the limits and compare what the others have to offer. I am back on a 600 and will probably stay here. Just my point of view. See you all at the track...

My overall concern with purchasing the Busa was the blend of comfort, performance and it's sex appeal...All the real liter bikes kind of look alike...Don't get me wrong I like to sit on a liter bike and trick my a$$ off (squid style) but then I want to finish the day on the Busa...

Wouldn't it be nice though to be able to purchase a Busa in the future that you didn't have to damn near completely change with aftermarket parts for performance enhancement???The Busa could stand for a few mild changes itself...Like 4-2-1 header, smaller mirrors, smaller front fender, cleaned up tail section, etc...I will always have a Busa to call upon, but that doesn't mean at some point I may not purchase a liter bike to play with...

I'm lovin' the new R1 too.

I've always liked the R1 Yamahas. I like the insectoid nose, angular styling, and all those edges. It looks like some kind of biomechanical, predatory bug. But I've never bought one. Because until now it has been lopsided, with that huge single can off the side.

The new bike has kept all of the styling traits I have liked and added some new features that appeal to me too. It is still edgy, but the lines have softened to a more "organic" flow from nose to tail. Plus that underseat exhaust is very cool. I like that new R1.

Yeah it is going to look like many other 1000cc bikes out there. And the Ducati 916 lives on in other brands now, like the R1. But just because some design elements have been used before doesn't make them bad. Though I'll admit, they can make a bike less distinctive. I like underseat exhausts, even if they become almost common place. I even like Buells for having the exhaust hidden under the whole bike.

The thing is... I love my Busa too. For many of the same reasons I like the R1. It too has this organic, living creature look to it. The Busa has always struck me as having a H.R. Giger inspired look. Almost like the Aliens from the Aliens movies. Certainly it is much more fluid than the R1 and less insect like. But those design ideas they share (in my view) are cool.

I see your point now. I agree. I did not know you went up to a 600.

I truly believe it's a step up. As you are focused on your ability, and using your bike like it's meant to be.

It is a beautiful bike...but with 180 hp from a 998cc mill...there's got to be some trade off...maybe low end torque gets set aside for higher rpm/horsepower. If you get it hope you enjoy it....and good luck keeping the front wheel down on a 379 lb, 180hp shortwheel base bike!!!
