Hey,
I have the potential to buy my first Hayabusa, and I just wanted to ask your opinion of whether or not this bike seems like it would be worth it (miles, condition, etc).
I am not an inexperienced rider, so I have no concerns as to whether or not I will be able to handle a bike this powerful.

The one I am looking at is a 2002 Hayabusa, with 36,4xx miles on it. It has been kept in relatively decent condition, not raced or stunted. It has a high mount devil exhaust system (as well as the original mufflers). Other than this, it is a relatively stock bike. A few cosmetic upgrades, as well as a slight amount of cosmetic damage: slight scuffing on the left tail side-2in long by 0.5 in wide. Nothing a little bondo and touch up paint can't clear up. There is one other spot of scratches on the lower right fairing, about 2x2 inches, again, covered w/ touch up paint.

According to the owner, in heavy stop and go traffic (assuming 3mph stop go for 45 min), the bike will overheat, but otherwise never has any problems. From my experience riding it, it feels extremely solid, and the engine sounded as if it was in order. Your help would be appreciated in helping me ascertain as to whether or not this is worth it.
He is asking $5300 for it straight. I will try to answer any questions you might have, if you have any.
Thanks again

The only issue I would consider would be the over heating ( though I have had a busa for a week , I would worry about any bike doing this )

for another grand or two you can surely pick one up with a lot less miles and more mods

Overheating is typical for me.. Busa doesn't like traffic on a hot day (Florida Hot). Some Engine Ice and another fan will cure that problem.

I'd offer him $4800 and see what happens.

The overheating might be a problem, so definitely look into that. The '02 has been great to me

I have not had my 06 BUSA in heavy traffic yet, in the summer, to see what happens. I would be mildly concerned about the overheating though.

+1 on the $4800 offer.

I'll make sure to go with the $4800 offer. I was going to take the bike to a mechanic to get it properly looked over, because I was wondering if the amount of miles on the bike should be something to be concerned with.
I was also going to try using a synthetic coolant with this bike (helps to keep it 20 degree's cooler while running).

any machine that overheats is suspect in my eye... would never touch it....

20 degrees cooler? that I doubt as well...

Engine Ice and Muzzy fan will generally solve the overheating. $5300 is not a bad price, but if you can get it for $4800 do it.

It never overheats while riding as I said, just in very bad stop go traffic.
Though, in my experience, that should not happen anyways.

Not a big deal unless the aluminum heads have warped a little bit. Then its a big deal, just ask Omar.

I would be worried about the overheating issue. My 2000 has never came close to overheating. Stop and go or not. I ran the stock fan and factory radiator fluid until I put a turbo on it at 17,000 miles with no problems. Also, I feel pretty confident that you could get newer bike for the same money and less miles. KEEP LOOKING

Between the over heating, mileage, lack of mods, cosmetic damage and price I think you could do better.

+1 on the $4800 offer.
+2 on the 4800. Also my busa never overheated under ANY conditions. The temp gauge barely moved over halfway in the hottest traffic.
