California Riders

I agree that CA have some great roads and tracks, Laguna is my persinal favorite.

The problem is that when someone wrecks their ride on the road, we all pay for it with our insurance money, and down the line changes to laws, such as horese power restrictions.

To give you a wake up call:

In Sweden (Europe) they restricted all bikes to 100hp, if you remove the restrictions your insurance is not valid.

Also, to insure your Busa one year is around $7,000.00 (US) if you live in Stockholm (Capitol)

Scary...

Hey Swede,

Is that outrageous cost of insurance in Sweden due to crashes or "social engineering"; trying to reduce the number of riders by making costs too high?

I prefer Capitalism over Socialism any day of the week! (No offense to you intended). I feel sorry for Europeans in general as they have given up their most basic freedoms for the "betterment of all". Of course, the US is headed that way too, thanks to our courts and legislature. Too Bad.............

The insurance part is a business decision from the insurance companies to be able to make profit from sportbikes that are frequently wrecked or stoolen. (All of them, insurance companies, are publicly traded and not government owned)

The hp limit is goverment, they think the amount of accidents are related to HP on the bikes.

I agree with you that I prefer capitalism before any other system.

Yes Swede, That HP limit is what i am referring to. I want the right to kill myself if I want to! After all, The freedom to risk oneself is why we ride Busa's in the first place. Riding is freedom. We usually don't put anyone else at risk. Cars barely get dented when a bike smashes into one. And you can still go over 120mph on a 85 HP bike. My Ducati Monster proves that. The higher HP just gives us greater acceleration.

I would think that Swedish riders are as good on average as US riders. And I would be surprised if the crime rate for bikes was higher than here too. So why do they charge 20 times more than I have to pay (2 times more than an assigned risk Busa driver here)?

Thanks for your response to my post. I am glad you didn't take my comment the wrong way.

Try to get full coverage in Santa Monica, CA 90066. Averages about $6000.00 per year when I called all the insurance companies. Insurance in Cali depends on your zip code and can be as bad or worse than Sweden. Needless to say I only have liability right now.

I remember your post Charlesbusa, I still have a hard time with that. Do you insure your home too?

Many insurance companies don't want to cover a bike unless they also get the more profitable items like trucks and homes. So if you aren't insuring anything else, they are likely just telling you they don't want your business (at $6000). That is just crazy at that price. The insurance is more than a used Busa costs? It makes no sense other than they are trying to discourage you. After all they can't say "we won't insure you", that would be illegal - restraint of trade.

We are the best at the Twisties!!
biggrin.gif
Er! what are twisties??

Twisties for me are in between manhole covers. Its all about where you are and how often you get to ride. I may not be able to bend it over like you but I can run side by side with you in a straight anytime .

Twisties and California go hand in hand... like Big O said, i have a lovely stretch of twisties that I go through on my way home from work when I ride in... and another longer set with 3 or 4 different options about 15 minutes away... I practice all the time and have improved greatly in just the past year.. I must admit I pass on double lines, in corners, and push it to the limit just about everytime I ride, but I try to be smart.. I never put anyone in danger and always wear protective gear when I know I'm hittin' it hard in the canyons. My riding abilities have improved because of the terrain in Cali, and the good weather..

Cali rules when it comes to riding!!!!

skippin past all the "B.S." I think its cuz you got less oxygen in that thick air therefore you either "Think" you are faster, or just not enough o2 ta tell yer brain to slow down.

hey marc,
most human beings on the planet earth would agree that the best riders on twisties and tracks are the italians and not the californians. we got the roads and the weather and the bikes and the leathers and the balls and the riders with the likes of valentino rossi, loris cappirossi, max biaggi marco melandri etc. You don't agree.tell these valley dudes to come over here and proove me wrong.

Riding in California, western Nevada, the mountains (anywhere the roads are clear), and the back water roads in Louisiana (watch out for gators) are all great.  I'm in the SF Bay Area and the road around here are awesome.  We here in thes area have hundreds of miles of twisties outside our door that alot of us use as therapy, I know I do.  There is nothing like ripping up Hwy9 to Skyline, down to Hwy84, dropping to the coast and then punching holes in the fog all the way back to Pacifica!!!  That's around 100 miles of twisties, on my commute home.......

So, you do you still need to ask why Cali riders are so much faster???

Pimping someone else's website... but take a look at one alternative of my commute:
http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/AlpineRd.htm

..and this is one of my favorite side routes on rides to southern Oregon:

Pace, Sierra, Lo - Take a look at the site.  It covers lots of NorCal and Nev.

CorrodedAlien, Alpine looks like a nice road. I ride through Hwy 9, 35, 84 all the time but have never taken Alpine. I will have to check it out. I know some of those smaller roads can be in bad condition (bumps, gravel, narrow, etc..) how fast have you been through there? Is it more of a cruising and enjoy the scenery road? Thanks for the tips!! I have used pashnit.com to find great roads in the Bay Area!!!

:-)  I live in Pacifica and have ridden on almost every paved road that crosses the pennisula from 9 north to Hwy 1/280.  Alpine, Tunitis Creek, and Old LaHonda Roads are not fast roads.  I call'em "Technical".  30MPH is pushing it on most parts of these roads.

Wanna hook up for a run?  I always have time to blast with another Busa rider...

I just got back from "scaring the tourists" as a Ducati rider friend of mine calls it.  Up and over 84 to the coast then up 1 to the house.  I had great run on the lower part, d*mn the busa love the open sweepers there!!!!

Saw some new riders on 600'z just about cheese it below the light on the coast side of 84 just above La Honda.  (Even Cali riders have to start sometime)

Sounds good!! I love the lower 84 run to HWY 1. Me and my friends go up and down it a couple times when we head out that way!! I usually go across Hwy 92 into Half Moon Bay, hit Hwy 1 and then head up 84 to Alice's because I am coming from across the Bay.... Earlier in the day the better, less bikes and cops out there...

We must hook up, nothing looks better than a couple Busa's soaring on the open road....

Lo

shoot me an e-mail lorie@citycom.com
did you go to Laguna? what year/color Busa do you have?

Sir Pashnit.com,
You are a god in my eyes.  Without you I would never discovered many of the rodes in cal.  From Stewarts Point/Skaggs Springs, Hwy 36, Foresthill and updates on Wentworth Springs the information is awesome!
Thanks!
