For Sat ride.. safe to say to wear leathers or we just cruising?
ALWAYS WEAR LEATHERS!

Unless you are a squid, then wear jeans!

I'm a squid......I'll be in jeans.  Can't afford leather pants.  Maybe for Christmas.

I'm doing the single Dad thingy....You all know what that means....Soccer, lunches, b-day parties, school supplies ect.

Do you have good life insurance?? Hope you can afford the hospital bills, pain pills for the road rash, time off work, etc

Ask Charles if he thinks wearing leather pants is silly now. He never wore them before we got together, and yes I nagged him non stop till he bought some (he already has all the other gear) but the first thing he said to me was "Boy am I glad I bought those pants". He even thanked me for loving him enough to nag his ass till he bought them. He ended up with only a bruise from the body slam he got by the suburban...it could have been MUCH worse. He slid and could have ended up with a ton of very painful road rash, but thankfully the pants prevented that.

Imagine having painful road rash, sitting in the hospital while the nurses scrub out your wounds with a brush so they don't get infected, having to take vicodin so you don't wanna scream every second and still try to be with your kids.

They are only about 200-300 bucks...cheap if you think of the alternative if you go down. Charles has been riding 8 years, and this wreck was not even his fault, the lady in the suburban changed over TWO lanes without any signal or notice and hit him. Even when you do the best you can to be careful and have 8 years of riding experience.....some stupid cager can STILL get you.

Get some leather pants or a suit...you will wonder why you ever rode without them!

DD -

I know gear can get expensive.

I wear about $1500.00 worth of gear when I ride.

But it wasnt bought all at once. a peice here. a peice there

Start with something like this

http://www.newenough.com/armor_icon_field_armor_short_page.htm

Body armor shorts you wear under your jeans. $80.00

A lot of accidents end up with major but and thigh road rash, for $80.00 you could save that pain

Then maybe the following month purchase a field armor vest.

http://www.newenough.com/armor_icon_field_armor_vest_pictures.htm

$100.00 gives you back and chest protection

Check this out, leather jacket closeout, normally $299.00, now $125.00

http://www.newenough.com/teknic_lightning_jacket_page.htm

Check out all of newenough closeouts. I have purchase MOST of my gear through them. And dont try to save to get everything, it more than likely wont happen. just purchase leather pans now. next monght a jacket. just build your gear.

Trust me, I have been in a few accidents, some with gear, some without, some partially geared. fully geared is the way you want to go.....

Devil dog,  There is a cheap and dirty gas station on the south side of Miramar rd. right off the 15.  Flaming-o motors side.  7:30 ish.  I'll be there!

I know it can be tough, but I really suggest a pair of Bohn UnderArmor, 'bout $150. I wear them under my jeans along with my jacket. Very comfortable and will help see you through till the leathers can make it in the budget. New Enough always has a couple of good deals on leathers going on. (Heck, just about anything. I love those guys.) Also, check out some local bike shops for discontinued or going-out-of-business sales. Good, inexpensive gear can be had and it's better than the alternative.

Nijinsky3,Thrasherfox, and others......I appreciate the concerns.....I just got the bike. Helmet, gloves, exhaust, a few other little thingys......I understand how critical leather pants are!! Really I do! If I had the money, I would get a 2 piece today! I do have a descent leather jacket. I never ride without it!!! I never thought of the armor underwear that tdrcomm is talking bout'. That is actually a great temporary fix. Like I said.....I would if I could....but I can't right now! I just got back from 3 yrs in Japan and setting up a household has been very expensive! A leather suit is my priority right now! Thanks guys!!!! Can I still ride with you guys?

You can still ride with us. I've been out without leather pants many times, just not any more. I know what it's like, wanting to ride and not having the cash to gear up right.

What Julie said applies, however. It costs a lot more to have road rash than it costs to have leather. Get on it ASAP!!

DD, to paraphrase my Mom, "If we didn't nag it means we don't care about 'ya!

We all know how it is. The good thing is you recognize and understand you need the gear, and that means it's on your mind. Lightyears ahead of a lot of riders I know.
