An interesting parallel

Something to think about...

The SR-71 Backbird (aircraft) was designed back in the 60's, some 30+ years ago, and to this day still remains the fastest aircraft in the world.

Similarily, the Hayabusa was probably designed back in the early or mid-90's, some 10 years ago, and with very little design changes has remained the fastest stock motorcycle in the world.

I guess good designs last a long, long time!

Here's to great engineering!

I remember thinkin' that my old GSXR1100 was so fast it just could not get any better. Now I have a Busa and think the same thing. It just can't get any better than this. But if it does. I get the next King of the road.

I hate to break the news to you but the SR-71 isn't the fastest aircraft in the world, only the fastest JET-ENGINE aircraft.

Heck, we have stuff now that cruises at 2 and 3 times the speed of that old girl. I wish they would get it perfected so the rest of the world can get a ride in it.

Until then I am awaiting the 07' changes...

Otherwise, I will be buying a TURBO for the old dog in my garage!

Oh so your calling the busa a ROAD KING? That's grounds for termination! It's not a Hardley!

Can't fire me. I now own a Hardly also. But you are correct. I should have said King of the Road as in the.......well you know the rest.

Got-Busa? - With the exception of the Space Shuttle entering the atmosphere, what aircraft, that's in production, flies faster than the SR-71?

Yea but sitting on the ground at idle my busa doesnt leak fuel and oil like a siv either....

I got to sit in an SR71 in dayton ohio at the Airforce museum. It was on display waiting to be moved to somewhere else and I got to help escort it.

Always been fascinated by it.

Leaking of the fluids is a must for the SR-71 while idle because in flight the metal heats up and expands, thereby sealing the metal seams and making it leakproof.

1. X-43 (Unmanned) Mach 9.8 110,000 feet
2. X-15 Mach 6.72 354,200 feet
3. SR-71 Blackbird (YF-12) Mach 3.2+ 85,000+ feet
4. MiG-25R Foxbat-B Mach 3.2 123,524 feet
4. X-2 Mach 3.2 126,200 feet
5. XB-70 Valkyrie Mach 3.1 77,350 feet
6. MiG-31 Foxhound Mach 2.83 67,600 feet
7. MiG-25 Foxbat (Ye-155) Mach 2.8 118,900 feet
8. F-15 Eagle Mach 2.5 60,000 feet
8. F-111 Aardvark Mach 2.5 60,000+ feet
9. X-1 Mach 2.435 90,440 feet
10. Su-24 Fencer Mach 2.4 57,400 feet

SR-71 Still comes in somewhat second according to those numbers, you can't count an unmanned jet in the same category as a manned jet.
