Long time reader first time poster! ( LOL) I have a question for y'all. I am contemplating on buying a 2008 orange/black busa and had some concerns. First off, the bike has been owned by a mature rider and has over 30000 hwy miles on it (long trips with friends). He has told me that he has kept up with the maintance and it runs like new, I was wondering what I should be asking and looking at about the bike when I go look at it this month. He is wanting $7500 for it and it has the typical mods and also a airshifter that needs to be hooked up, and it has never been laid down or in a accident. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You: Joker0524

PS: Hope this the right place to post.

Welcome, Joker. From my surfing around the net, used '08s were going for $8500 on average from dealers. Seen a few private party ads here for $7500 and lower (under 10K miles).

Does seller have records of service/scheduled maintenance for the bike? Maybe get the VIN checked at his servicing dealer to check/confirm?

30k on an 08? Where is this bike located? That's a lot of miles for 2 years.....
Could probably get a lower mileage bike for close to that money.
Define typical mods...

This is the add: Im selling my 2008 Hayabusa. This bike runs great and has no problems. Very fast and powerful. It is stretched and lowered. The lowering links are completely adjustable and can be raised or lowered with the turn of a wrench. Than means that you dont have to undo the whole lower assembly to raise or lower bike. It also has a Tsubaki Chain on it(Very strong; in fact much stronger that the factory chain) I added the Seat last summer. It has a BMC racing air filter to provide better airflow. Carbon Fiber tank guards and I even have "1340" signs so it wont be like the others and say "1300". I added M-4 slip on exhaust and it also has an air shifter installed which is in perfect operating condition.

Given the mods, I would say the bike has been drag raced (lowered, stretched, shifter, chain) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but can be hard on parts. Also would be wondering why the stickers have been replaced. If you get even a whiff this guy is hiding something (and I would ask some very blunt questions) walk away. There are other bikes out there.

If you find a member that lives close by, you will probably find they would be willing to go with you to give it a look over. Just a thought. Good luck with whichever route you choose....:beerchug:

I have two friends going with me (Busa Owners), so I should be ok on that aspect. Ketchmi, Utah is a little ways for me (Cen. Louisiana), but thank you for showing.

Def. sounds like the bike was dragged just from the Mods. Like the previous post said, not necessarily a bad thing.. but I think 15k a year is a lot of miles.. although if he took proper care of it then it might be better than some Busas with 1000 miles that get left out in the snow all winter (thread just popped up with a pic of 1 doin' just that). Good luck with the purchase! But as always, shop around!

You can get a bike with less miles, for the same money. You just have to keep looking. I had a TL100R, put about 22k (mainly highway) in one year. Around 27k I had all kinds of problems had to sell her. The lower the miles on the bike the less likelly you are to have problems. Key word being likelly.

With the mods that were done to the bike, kinda makes it seem like it was used for some drag racing. You can find something with a lot less miles on it. Good luck on your adventure and welcome to the .org!

Dunno how far you are from beaumont but that's where I got my bike. Golden triangle powersports. Another buddy of mine bought his in lake charles. If you decide to go new I'd give one of them a holler.

7500 seems a little rich for the year and mileage.
