my bike right now has 15/43 sprockets i havent been to track with it yet i am comcidering swithing to 16/43 or 17/43 im wondering what gear ill be in at the lights i dont have an air shifter so the less chifting the better preferably top of 3rd gear i think 15/43 is probably putting me mid 4th I CANT DECIDE WHETHER 16/43 OR 17/43 IS GOING TO PUT ME THERE?

Need more info.... what is your current mph in the 1/4?

Or mods, weight might help.

Regardless of what times and speeds you are running, get rid of the 15. That thing will eat chains, and it has a lot less wrap than a 16 or 17. I run 16/43 and when I change chain and sprockets I will go 17/45 to get back to the larger sprocket on the front.

+1, I'm running a 19 now.

a 15/43 is a 2.87 ratio, you can get the same with 16/46-2.88, or 17/49-also 2.88. If you run the 1/8th,the 16/46 will be hard on the limiter in 3rd about 5 feet before the traps so look into a 44 or a 45. 16/43 will work good to, it's just a tad tall. As everyone else has said,'lose' the 15 before a simple gear swap becomes a vented set of engine cases

If you want to peak in 3rd gear and are basically stock you want stock gearing. Mine bumped the rev limiter in 3rd crossing the lights.

Ya....the 15 is a bad idea. The BUSA has to much torque for that dinky little sprocket so toss it....

im not quite stock full airbox mod, full rs-3, 1397 bore, 385/385 cams aint been to track yet want to get gears straight first.
you want to be in 3rd in the 1/4 or 1/8 mile.

You might need a 18/39 18/40 to be in the top of 3rd in the 1/4 with that combo.... I wouldn't do it.

i agree thanks professor. just trying to save one shift till i get shifter if i get shifter. i guess top of 4th is probably more like it you think? im going to go with 17/43

I'm not sure what your MPH will be. 17/43 should be decent for 145-148mph should be in the ball park. Good starting place anyhow.
