Best to change front sprocket or rear?

+1 go with a 43 rear, 190/55, and just add a link or two

Why a 43 instead of 42? Someone my size, won't it tend to wheelie?

If you were running a 190/50 I would say go with the 42...with the 190/55 43 is better

The 55 is taller and has the same effect as going down on the rear sprocket.



Don't know if you have used this chart, but a 190/50 with 17/42 @ 11,000 rpm=195 mph.

The 190/55 with 17/43 @ 11,000 rpm=196mph.

yup....17/42 here.always go up in the rear to save chain life

Approx values are....
1 down in front same as roughly 3 up in back!

I would do as suggested... Up in the rear and leave the front alone!

Dealer service Mgr. recommended not going down in front sprocket...only up in the rear sprocket...42 or 43 it's your choice.

Does gearing down to 17/43 affect gas freeway gas mileage much? I ass-ume this is done to make the higher gears a little more useful and give a little more punch in the lower gears, since most of is don't really need to go 185 on a daily basis.

Yes your mileage will go down a bit with the 17/43 gear change...but the fun level goes up

I think the mileage goes down BECAUSE the fun factor goes up

I don't notice much diff in my mileage when I'm cruising...but with the lower gears I don't "cruise" near as much as I used to
